The problem with electric cars is that the chargers required to charge them aren’t quite as ubiquitous compared to a gas station. This might be made worse in more rural areas where there is a lower chance of a charging station being available. However Elon Musk is hoping that he will be able to solve this problem come 2019.
Responding to a tweet from a customer, it seems that Musk is aiming for full Supercharger coverage across Europe in 2019. That being said, it has been pointed out that Musk’s claims should probably be taken with a grain of salt because according to Electrek, Musk had aimed to have 18,000 Superchargers by the end of the year, but fell short of that mark with close to 12,000 chargers, which is not close to the 18,000 that he had initially aimed for.
However we suppose it’s not a bad aim to have 100% coverage across Europe by the end of 2019 as it should help encourage adoption of electric cars. That being said, Tesla’s Superchargers still aren’t quite as fast compared to refueling cars normally, where it will be able to charge to 80% in 40 minutes. This is compared to the new tech that Porsche and BMW recently unveiled which adds 100KM to an electric car’s range in 3 minutes.
Yes. Supercharger coverage will extend to 100% of Europe next year. From Ireland to Kiev, from Norway to Turkey. https://t.co/7FQZgLCTVJ
