Record-Setting Ice Hole Drilled in Antarctica

Using a hot-water drill, British scientists have dug a 7,060-foot borehole through the Antarctic ice sheet. The comically long ice hole is the largest ever for West Antarctica, and it’s meant to improve our understanding of climate-related sea level rise.

Hilton And Netflix Now Offer In-Room Streaming Via Hilton’s App

It’s common to find Netflix on hotel room TVs, the app is pre-installed and guests can simply log in. Hilton and Netflix are taking this experience one step further by teaming up for in-room streaming through the hotel giant’s own Hilton Honors mobile app. Hilton’s guests will be able to log into their Netflix accounts and control streaming using the app.

The companies will be offering this experience in Hilton’s Connected Rooms initially. The hotel chain introduced this new concept for guest rooms in its properties back in December. Guests in a Connected Room will be able to control the room’s temperature, lighting, and personalize TV channels with the Hilton Honors mobile app.

This might be Hilton’s first deal with Netflix on this but it’s not the first time that it’s offering an experience like this. It already has a similar deal with Showtime which enables guests to access Showtime’s content for free through the app.

For Netflix, users will be able to log into their own account using the Hilton app and then decide what they want to stream on their room’s TV. Since they will be signing into their own account and not some custom version, they will also be able to access their saved list of content, pick up where they left off watching, and get personalized recommendations.

Hilton has over 1,800 of these rooms in its properties currently and will be rolling out the technology to “tens of thousands” of rooms across the U.S. and internationally.

Q-Bong Pressurized Beer Bong Will Make You Hurl Faster

It’s 2019, and ordinary beer bongs just won’t cut it. Gravity just doesn’t deliver beer fast enough for some people. That’s why we now have the Q-bong pressurized beer bong, a device designed to shoot beer down the throat of its recipient faster than ever.

All you have to do is fill the reservoir with up to 32-ounces of beer, pump the air bulb to your desired beer-pressure, press the trigger valve and get to chugging. Isn’t college fun? Now it’s a little less fun because it’s so convenient to chug all by yourself with no one helping.

Is it called the Q-Bong because some guy in British intelligence who invents gadgets for a living came up with this? I have no idea, but I can tell you that the guy in the video looks like Ryan Reynolds demonstrating this device. And just as I thought, he doesn’t look like he’s having a lot of fun chugging from this thing. Calling it now, this thing kills parties dead. Oh look, there’s so and so over there chugging by himself in the corner from what is essentially a juice box of beer. No one likes that guy.

I like how the video also cuts off right before he chugs. Because he can’t. Because he’s clearly too old for college.

Sony α6400 mirrorless camera

When it comes to mirrorless cameras, there are many different kinds of models to choose from with various manufacturers touting their wares. Sony too, has its fair share of champions with the Sony α6400 mirrorless camera being one of the latest additions to the family that will bring with it a slew of Sony’s most advanced technologies in the body of a compact, lightweight APS-C camera.

Make no mistake about it, the Sony α6400 will be a speedy little one, where it lays claim to having the world’s fastest autofocus (AF) acquisition of 0.02 seconds. In addition, it also has a new advanced Real-time Eye AF and real-time tracking capabilities. To impress the masses further, the Sony α6400 comes with high-speed shooting at up to 11 fps with AF/AE tracking, a new-generation BIONZ X image processing engine which will be able to produce excellent image quality, 4K video recording, and a fully 180-degree tiltable LCD touch screen among others.

It also boasts of 425 phase-detection AF points and 425 contrast-detection AF points which have been strategically placed over the entire image area, where it will cover approximately 84 percent of the image area. Spicing things up would be the Real-time Eye AF, which will make use of artificial intelligence based object recognition in order to detect and process eye data in real time. This results in vastly improved accuracy, speed and tracking performance of Eye AF. When you are in the autofocus mode, the camera is able to automatically detect the eyes of the subject, where it can even choose to concentrate on the preferred eye (left or right) of the subject as the focus point.

Keeping the Sony α6400 company would be a slew of image processing algorithms from Sony’s newest full-frame cameras, which further suppresses noise while preserving resolution and improving texture depiction. Expect the Sony α6400 to ship in February 2019 for a recommended retail price of $900 apiece.

Microsoft Office Is Finally Available From The Mac App Store

Say you want to download Microsoft Office on your MacBook. The first place you’d think about hitting up would be the Mac App Store. The only problem was that the company’s popular productivity suite wasn’t distributed through the store. That changes today. Microsoft Office is now finally available from the Mac App Store.

“Apple and Microsoft have worked together to bring great Office productivity to Mac users from the very beginning. Now, with Office 365 on the Mac App Store, it’s easier than ever to get the latest and best version of Office 365 for Mac, iPad and iPhone,” said Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing, Phil Schiller.

This has been due for a few months now. Microsoft had previously confirmed that it would have the Office apps listed on the Mac App Store by the end of 2018. That obviously didn’t happen but at least it has been able to follow through on its promise a few weeks into the new year.

There’s nothing new about the versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and OneDrive that are now listed on the Mac App Store. They’re the same apps which were previously available from Microsoft’s website. The only difference is that it’s now much easier to get them on your Mac.

Another benefit of them being listed on the Mac App Store is that these apps will now be updated automatically through the store instead of having to go through Microsoft’s standalone AutoUpdate tool that was normally used to update Office for Mac.

NASA: Astronaut immune system cells affected by long-term trips

NK-cell function appears to be impaired during spaceflights over long durations according to a new study published this week. This means that immune systems could be broken down somewhat during the long trips NASA hopes to take with astronauts in the distant future. The research here was done by a team of researchers at the University of Arizona, the University … Continue reading
