Sony α6400 mirrorless camera
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhen it comes to mirrorless cameras, there are many different kinds of models to choose from with various manufacturers touting their wares. Sony too, has its fair share of champions with the Sony α6400 mirrorless camera being one of the latest additions to the family that will bring with it a slew of Sony’s most advanced technologies in the body of a compact, lightweight APS-C camera.
Make no mistake about it, the Sony α6400 will be a speedy little one, where it lays claim to having the world’s fastest autofocus (AF) acquisition of 0.02 seconds. In addition, it also has a new advanced Real-time Eye AF and real-time tracking capabilities. To impress the masses further, the Sony α6400 comes with high-speed shooting at up to 11 fps with AF/AE tracking, a new-generation BIONZ X image processing engine which will be able to produce excellent image quality, 4K video recording, and a fully 180-degree tiltable LCD touch screen among others.
It also boasts of 425 phase-detection AF points and 425 contrast-detection AF points which have been strategically placed over the entire image area, where it will cover approximately 84 percent of the image area. Spicing things up would be the Real-time Eye AF, which will make use of artificial intelligence based object recognition in order to detect and process eye data in real time. This results in vastly improved accuracy, speed and tracking performance of Eye AF. When you are in the autofocus mode, the camera is able to automatically detect the eyes of the subject, where it can even choose to concentrate on the preferred eye (left or right) of the subject as the focus point.
Keeping the Sony α6400 company would be a slew of image processing algorithms from Sony’s newest full-frame cameras, which further suppresses noise while preserving resolution and improving texture depiction. Expect the Sony α6400 to ship in February 2019 for a recommended retail price of $900 apiece.

Huawei Confirms Foldable 5G Smartphone For MWC 2019
Posted in: Uncategorized
There has been a lot of talk about foldable smartphones recently. Samsung is going to show one soon, most likely with the Galaxy S10 at its event on February 20. Xiaomi unveiled a cool prototype of its device yesterday while Motorola is believed to be reviving its Razr brand for a foldable device. Don’t count Huawei out, the Chinese giant has confirmed it’s bringing a foldable 5G smartphone to MWC 2019.
Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer division, dropped this little nugget of information at the end of the company’s 5G launch event in Beijing. The event was about Huawei’s new Balong 5000 5G modem and its base station hardware but it mentioned towards the end that it’s going to unveil a foldable 5G smartphone at MWC 2019 next month.
“We look forward to seeing you in Barcelona in February, where we will launch the world’s first 5G smartphones with foldable screen,” you said. The “smartphones” most likely refers to a single device and not multiple as it has been translated from Mandarin.
There are no images or renders available to show what form Huawei’s foldable device might take. What it has confirmed though is that the device will use the company’s Balong 5000 modem. Comparisons will invariably be drawn with Samsung’s foldable smartphone which will reportedly have a 5G variant as well.

Facebook is making a major change to the way it deals with the removal of content from Pages and Groups on the world’s largest social network. It previously removed content that was found in violation of its Community Standards or rated as false by a third-party fact-checking service. The changes have been made to better prevent those who have their Pages removed from using duplicate Pages to spread the same content.
A couple of other changes have been made with regards to the quality of content. A new Page Quality tab will now be visible to people who manage Pages. It will help them understand how the Pages they are managing comply with Facebook’s guidelines. The tab has two sections one of which details the content recently removed from violating Community Standards and content from the Page that was recently rated “False,” “Mixture” or “False Headline” by third-party fact-checkers.
It’s initially including content removed for policies like graphic violence, hate speech, harassment, bullying, regulated goods, nudity or sexual activity, and support or praise of people and events that are not allowed to be on Facebook in this tab. It does mention that this tab won’t provide a comprehensive accounting of all policy violations so it won’t be showing removals at this time for things like IP violations, spam, and clickbait.
Facebook has long prevented people from creating Pages, Groups, events or accounts that are similar to the ones previously removed for violation of Community Standards. People have been working around this by using existing Pages that they already manage for the same purpose as the one that was removed.
In order to plug this loophole, Facebook will now proactively remove other Pages and Groups after it removes a particular one for violation even if that specific Page or Group has not met the threshold to be unpublished on its own. It will enforce this policy by seeing if the Page has the same people administering or has a similar name to the one that’s being removed.

The competing proposals seemed unlikely to resolve the month-long impasse.
One guy could give Alec Baldwin a run for impersonating the president.
I have played a lot of video games in my day, and none have made me rage quit as much as The Oregon Trail did back in elementary school. It was impossible to not die from dysentery. Not one single kid in my school ever survived literally shitting themselves to death in that bastard of a game.
If you feel like dying of dysentery anywhere you may be, consider the The Oregon Trail handheld game. Usually, the game is about $25, which is more than I am willing to pay for being frustrated. However, Target has the game on sale right now for $10. That’s about a cheap as digital dysentery will get.
Pick one up while the sale lasts. If you win, be sure you brag on your favorite social media.
Astro, the company behind Luna Display and Astropad, is releasing a major software update that will drastically improve performance. According to the company’s own testing, you should expect as much as a 100 percent performance increase when it comes to latency and refresh rate.
Luna Display lets you use your iPad as a second monitor for your laptop. For instance, if you’re traveling and you can’t get any work done without an external display, you can use Luna Display to move macOS windows across your laptop display and your iPad.
Some people have also been using it with a home server. For instance, you can use Luna Display to control a Mac Mini using an iPad, a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse. You’re no longer tied to a desk.
Compared to similar apps, Luna Display relies on a hardware dongle. This tiny USB-C or Mini DisplayPort device emulates a display. In your Mac settings, it looks like you plugged a standard display even though it’s just a tiny key.
Astropad is a separate app for creative professionals. It lets you mirror your Mac display and use Photoshop with your Apple Pencil. They both rely on the same rendering engine.
And today’s update is all about performance. Thanks to a bunch of optimizations, you get an average latency of 11.3 ms when you use one of those apps with a 13-inch MacBook Pro, an 11-inch iPad Pro and a USB cable. Over Wi-Fi, you get a latency of 22.4 ms.
When it comes to frame rate, it’s a bit harder to quantify. But Astro has compared its products with competing solutions and thinks you have a higher chance of hitting 60 frames per second using Astro’s products.
Astro has compared Luna Display with Duet Display and Air Display. And it’s interesting to see that the company reports better performance than Duet.
Duet recently released and update to take advantage of hardware acceleration. At the time, Duet claimed that its solution was faster and cheaper than Luna Display. It’s clear that this space is moving quickly, and the result is better apps for everyone.
We have just a few weeks left to go before Samsung officially unveils the Galaxy S10 and S10+, which leaves plenty of time for the devices to leak out. Both have phones have been leaked numerous times at this point – so much so, in fact, that when Samsung gets up on stage to actually unveil them, there probably won’t … Continue reading
