Wood block connects you to coffee shop WiFi with a tap

It’s not very fun to connect to WiFi at a café or hotel. If you don’t have to ask staff for a password, they’ll have to print it somewhere — and it’s still a hassle when all you want to do is check your email. Ten One Design thinks it might h…

Twitter Testing Out Simpler, Redesigned Website

If you think that the current design of Twitter is a bit too confusing and messy, then you might be interested to learn that Twitter has announced that they have begun rolling out a redesigned website. However this seems to be a test of sorts because Twitter states that not all users will be able to opt-in for this design, meaning that Twitter could still be looking for user feedback to determine when they should begin a wider roll out.

This is actually not the first time that Twitter had teased a redesign, but this announcement seems to suggest that the company is getting closer to rolling out for its users. The new design will make the website easier to navigate, where users will be able to use keyboard shortcuts to find their way around the website and certain tasks, versus clicking which can be a bit slower.

Other changes also include a dedicated emoji button, and there will also be an upgraded trend section. That being said, this seems to be a bit limited at the moment in terms of availability. If you do see the option to enable it for yourself, then you are one of the lucky few who are getting to test it out. If you don’t see it, not to worry as we’re sure that Twitter will eventually get around to making it available for everyone. In the meantime you can check out the video below to get an idea of what some of the changes you can expect.

KFC Made a Candle That Smells Like Gravy

KFC UK apparently loves their gravy. They love it so much that they want your room will be filled with the smell of their signature gravy. Seems kind of weird to me without any mashed potatoes. Even if you love the gravy, do you really want the lingering smell of gravy in your home? Well, if you do, check this out.

The gravy candle is free, but there’s a catch. Only 230 candles are being offered and one could be yours if you are lucky enough. If you are in the UK or Ireland, just go to this page and you can enter to win a KFC Gravy Scented Candle of your very own to make your house smell like KFC. And when you burn this candle you can get the full KFC experience thanks to the KFChill experience, which lets you immerse yourself in the sounds of frying chicken, falling fries, or simmering gravy.

These are great companion sound effects to go with this gravy-scented candle. Even better, have yourself a KFC meal while your candle burns. I guess that kind of defeats the purpose of this candle, but let’s be honest, it’s only purpose is a marketing scheme. Might as well enjoy the real thing if you like KFC.

Watch Blue Origin’s 10th New Shepard mission launch a science-loaded capsule to space

Blue Origin, the rocket company founded by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, is about to undertake the 10th launch of its New Shepard launch vehicle, with its capsule chock full of experiments. The launch, which was originally scheduled for a month ago but delayed for various reasons, will take place tomorrow at 6:50 AM Pacific time.

New Shepard is a sub-orbital space-visiting platform, not a satellite-launching one. But it uses a very traditional method of getting to the edge of space compared with Virgin Galactic’s rather involved mothership-spaceship combo, which scraped the very edge of space in its fourth test launch last month.

The rocket shoots straight up, as rockets do, reaches escape velocity, then pops its capsule off the top just before the Karman line that officially, if somewhat arbitrarily, delineates space from Earth’s atmosphere. The capsule, after exhausting its upward momentum, gently floats back to the surface under a parachute.

That’s the plan for Wednesday’s launch, which you can watch live here starting half an hour or so before T-0. But instead of taking a dummy load or “Mannequin Skywalker,” as the company calls its human stand-in during tests of the crew capsule, mission 10 has a whole collection of experiments on board.

There are nine experiments total, all flying through NASA’s Flight Opportunities program. They’re detailed here. Most have already been up in other vehicles or even a Blue Origin one, but obviously repetition and iteration is important to their development.

“The opportunity to re-fly our payload is helping us not only validate and compare data for different flight profiles, but also test modifications and upgrades,” said NASA’s Kathryn Hurlbert, who heads up the Suborbital Flight Experiment Monitor-2 project at Johnson Space Center.

More Flight Opportunities spots will be available on future NASA-sponsored launches, so if your lab has an experiment it would like to test on a sub-orbital rocket, get at the administrators as soon as the shutdown ends.

Pixel 3, Galaxy Note 9 top new DxOMark selfie benchmarks

DxOMark has always prided itself for being the benchmarking experts not just for digital cameras in general but even more for smartphones. They have become so popular that OEMs have even started using them in their marketing. But throughout the years, DxOMark has avoided testing one of the most important uses of a smartphone. That has finally changed and it … Continue reading

Possible Samsung Galaxy S10 Pricings Revealed

At the rate things are going, smartphone prices only seem to be going up. Unfortunately that looks like it could be the same for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 series, in which the phone doesn’t look like it will be close to affordable, so maybe it’s time to start saving up for it if you want.

This is based on a post by Tutto Android in which the alleged pricings of the various Galaxy S10 models have been revealed. Note that these prices are in euros which means that in the US and other parts of the world, the price of the phone could be different. However its pricing in euros should give us a good idea of what we can expect in terms of relative cost.

Starting with the Galaxy S10 Lite model, this will be priced starting at 779 euros for the 6GB RAM and 128GB model. Next is the regular Galaxy S10 also with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, in which it will be priced at 929 euros. Then there will also be the Galaxy S10+ which is priced starting at 1,049 euros for the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration.

It also seems that there could be a 1TB Galaxy S10+ model with 12GB of RAM in which it could be priced at a whopping 1,599 euros. Take these prices with a grain of salt for now, but the phones are expected to be officially announced come 20th February, 2019 so we should have more details then.
