Smart NBA Jerseys Lets You Switch Allegiances On The Fly

Sport jerseys are a good way for you to advertise the team and the player that you support. However, there are times when you might be wishing you weren’t wearing your jersey, such as when walking into a sports bar filled with the other team, or when your team just lost and you’re feeling a bit disillusioned.

However recently during the All-Star Technology Summit, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver took the wraps off a smart NBA jersey which would allow users to change their team and the name of the jersey on the fly. Silver does not dive into details on how exactly this change will work, but judging from what we can see, it is controlled by a smartphone app.

If we had to guess, chances are there might be some kind of flexible display built into the jersey that lets the wearer change what’s being shown using an accompanying smartphone app. However so far it does seem a bit limited where at most, users will only be able to change the name and the number on the jersey, so you can’t quite hop to a different team color just yet.

We’re not sure if there are plans to eventually start selling these smart jerseys, but it will be interesting to see how well-received these jerseys are when they are made available. In the meantime, other companies such as Google are also exploring the concept of smart clothing, but to date, the tech hasn’t quite broken into the mainstream yet.
