NASA’s Mars Opportunity Rover Is Officially Dead

NASA’s Mars Opportunity rover has helped scientists understand a lot more about the Red Planet and has also shaped the public’s view of our neighbor. The rover landed on Mars back in 2004 as part of the Mars Exploration Rover mission. 15 years later, NASA has confirmed that Opportunity is now officially dead.

It’s astonishing to think how long the rover has been able to perform its duties when you consider the fact that it was expected to have a total lifespan of about 90 days. Instead, it stayed alive up there for 15 years. The Opportunity rover traveled over 28 miles on the Martian surface from the Eagle crater where the mission started to the larger Endeavour crater.

NASA confirmed at a press conference that the Opportunity rover is no longer functional. The Mars Exploration Rover team made the final attempt to reach the rover last night which remained unsuccessful.

NASA hasn’t heard from Opportunity since June 10th, 2018 and had been trying to contact it ever since. It’s believed to have been caught up in a dust storm on Mars which blocked the rover’s solar panels. Researchers tried to ping Opportunity countless times and continued to listen over the radio waves to catch its signal again but to no avail.

Nintendo’s Most Successful Smartphone Game Is ‘Fire Emblem Heroes’

Nintendo has launched several mobile games to date, a very different change in pace compared to several years ago when the company was adamant about not launching games on mobile. Turns out it was a great decision because according to the latest data from Sensor Tower (via AppleInsider), Fire Emblem Heroes has made the company a lot of money.

If the data is accurate, Fire Emblem Heroes has reportedly made Nintendo a whopping $500 million to date. This makes it the most successful mobile game that Nintendo has launched so far. This is versus other Nintendo titles such as Super Mario Run which only made $68 million to date (which Nintendo had previously expressed some disappointment at), along with Dragalia Lost and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp which made $74 million and $70 million respectively.

One of the possible reasons for the success of Fire Emblem Heroes is its long storied history and reputation over the years, plus given that it is free-to-play, it makes it easy to adopt. It is also said to be highly replayable which means that gamers can keep playing it over and over again, thus tempting them to spend money on “orbs” to summon heroes.

Nintendo has more mobile games planned, such as Mario Kart Tour which has the potential to be pretty popular as well, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Gmail Rolling Out A More Functional Right Click Menu

The problem that some websites and web apps face is that for the most part, they still exist within the browser which means that certain things, like right-clicking, can be limiting. This was a “problem” that Google’s Gmail service had faced, where right clicking in Gmail wasn’t a particularly useful feature.

However the good news is that after years of being pestered by their users, Google has finally rolled out some changes that will make right clicking in Gmail a whole lot more useful. The update is being rolled out as we speak so you should already be able to see the changes, but if not don’t worry as it should eventually find its way to you.

In terms of what you can expect, for example right clicking an email will allow users to reply an email, forward it, delete it, archive it, move it to a different folder, and so on. Note that all these functions have always been available, but weren’t available via right clicking. For power users who are familiar with keyboard shortcuts, the right clicking function might not necessarily be an improvement, but if you still find yourself clicking around a lot in Gmail, then these changes could be a much-welcome one.
