Waymo has already worked with the likes of Fiat Chrysler and Jaguar Land Rover on self-driving cars and is now said to be in talks about a potential partnership with the powerful Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. According to reports Waymo, a division of Google’s parent company Alphabet, is in the “final phase” of talks with this alliance for a partnership on self-driving cars.
The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance is quite powerful. Its global sales crossed 10.8 million automobiles last year so it can prove to be a resourceful partner for Waymo, a company that’s looking to put self-driving vehicles on the road for its autonomous taxi service.
There aren’t a lot of details available right now about what this partnership will set out to achieve. The report mentions that the work may involve developing a fleet of self-driving taxis that use Nissan’s vehicles and a system that can handle bookings and payments for the taxi service.
Such a partnership would prove to be beneficial for all parties involved. Waymo would get access to markets where Fiat Chrysler and Jaguar Land Rover don’t have a strong presence. Companies in the alliance will not have to start from scratch for their own self-driving vehicles. Neither party has officially confirmed a partnership at this point in time.

London Gets a LEGO Coffee Shop
Posted in: Today's ChiliRecently, London went LEGO while promoting The LEGO Movie 2. Among the LEGO-mania was a pop-up coffee shop that filled with LEGO items. The pop-up cafe is called The Coffee Chain, and it was inspired by the cafe in the movie. It was set up at London’s Observation Point in South Bank for two days.
The LEGO brick cafe is one thing, but there were also LEGO cupcakes that look delicious, though you would lose some teeth trying to eat one. The movie’s voice actors paid the coffee shop a visit too, including Chris Pratt and Tiffany Haddish who are the voices of Emmet and Queen Whatevra Wa’Nabi. The pair were on hand to serve the first customers, as well as endure endless selfies.
About 50,000 LEGO elements were used to bring the coffee shop to life, and it took six builders 236 hours to finish. Obviously, the entire structure wasn’t built entirely of LEGO, but it’s still pretty damn cool. It probably would have taken them a million pieces or more if it was.
I’d like to see LEGO build an entire town out of LEGO bricks, so people could live in it. I would live there. Though I’d probably kill my feet just walking across the floor of my house.

Just last month, Google showed off an “Interpreter mode” that would let Google Home devices act as an on-the-fly translator. One person speaks one language, the other person speaks another, and Google Assistant tries to be the middleman between the two.
They were only testing it in select locations (hotel front desks, mostly) at the time, but it looks like it’s gotten a much wider rollout now.
Though Google hasn’t officially announced it, AndroidPolice noticed that a support page for the feature just went public. We tested it on our own Google Home devices, and sure enough: interpreter mode fired right up.
To get started, you just say something like “Hey Google, be my Spanish interpreter,” or “Hey Google, help me speak Italian.”
Curiously, you currently have to say the initial command in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish, but once it’s up and running you should be able to translate between the following languages:

• Dutch
• English
• Finnish
• French
• German
• Greek
• Hindi
• Hungarian
• Indonesian
• Italian
• Japanese
• Korean
• Mandarin
• Polish
• Portuguese

It works pretty well for basic conversations in our quick testing, but it has its quirks. Saying “Goodbye,” for example, ends the translation rather than translating it into the target language, which might be a little confusing if one half of the conversation didn’t realize the chat was nearing its end.
The new feature should work on any Google Home device — and if it’s one with a screen (like Google’s Home Hub), you’ll see the words as they’re translated.
