Microsoft Could Overhaul File Explorer’s Design This Year

Microsoft has been steadily updating its File Explorer in Windows over the years, but for those who think that maybe the file manager could do with improvements to its design, you might be in luck because according to HTNovo, it seems that Microsoft could finally be updating its File Explorer design later this year.

The design will be in line with the company’s Fluent Design language which was introduced a few years ago and has been slowly finding its way to various Microsoft apps and services. We’re not sure what the final result could look like, but HTNovo points towards some concept images that were created by Michael West, an intern designer at Microsoft.

Assuming the end result actually looks like that, we have to say that we would be pretty chuffed. Apart from the new coat of paint, we’re not sure if the new design might bring about new features to File Explorer also, but we’ll have to wait and see. While the official rollout of the changes might only arrive in 2020, the report does claim that it should find its way to Windows Insiders later this year, so perhaps we’ll learn more about the changes then.

The company has been making changes over the years, such as in Windows Vista and Windows 7, but this could represent quite a huge change once it rolls out to all users.
