Google Inbox App Shutting Down On April 2nd

You may have heard that Google+ will bite the dust on April 2nd but it’s not going to be the only Google service to meet its demise on that day. The company has now started sending notifications to Inbox users that the service is going to bid farewell on the same day.

Google sent out emails late last year to confirm that it would shut down Inbox in 2019. It has now been sending notifications to Inbox users that their preferred email service will be going away on April 2nd for good.

The notification that is being sent out has a link to open the Gmail app. This can be viewed as an attempt by the company to ensure that affected users stick with a Google email solution and not move to many alternatives available in the Play Store.

Those who already use Gmail won’t notice that much of a difference. That’s because Google ported over many of Inbox’s most useful features to Gmail, such as Smart Compose and Smart Reply. However, those who really liked Inbox will miss some other features such as bundling, but there’s no way to stop Google from taking away Inbox now. This was due to happen and it will now happen early next month.

Apple Adds $5,200 RAM Option For iMac Pro

Fancy spending $5,200 on just the RAM for your new iMac Pro? Now you can. Apple has updated its configuration options for this powerful Mac machine which include an option for a staggering 256GB of RAM. You’ll need some really deep pockets for this because the iMac Pro itself starts at $4,999.

Come to think of it, that single RAM upgrade costs more than it would to buy a single base iMac Pro which comes with 32GB of RAM out of the box. It costs an extra $400 to upgrade that to 64GB and an additional $2,000 to bump that up to 128GB. Those options now seem cheap compared to the $5,200 256GB RAM upgrade for the iMac Pro.

Another upgrade option is the Radeon Pro Vega 64X GPU with 16GB of memory. This feels like a relatively cheap upgrade at just $700. All iMac Pro machines come with a Vega 56 GPU as standard while it was previously possible to get a Vega 64 GPU by paying an extra $550.

So if you were to run through the gauntlet and price out a top-tier iMac Pro with all the bells and whistles which include the 18 core Intel Xeon W processor, 256GB RAM, Vega 64X GPU, and 4TB SSD storage, it would cost you a whopping $15,999.

Firefox 66 Is Out And It Blocks Autoplaying Content By Default

If you were to say that videos that autoplay with sound online are a major inconvenience, you’d likely find a lot of people who agree with you, myself included. Mozilla is looking to do away with these online inconveniences. The company today announced that the latest Firefox 66 release available today blocks autoplaying content by default.

You can find autoplaying videos with sound on just about any kind of website, be it a news or entertainment site. Firefox 66’s Block Autoplay feature will stop the video and audio from playing automatically. If you want to watch the video, just click on the play button. Some social media platforms do have autoplaying videos but they automatically mute the sound. The Block Autoplay feature will not stop the video from playing on such websites.

Mozilla has also made the security warnings in the browser easy to understand. Whenever users visit a site which has a potential security issue, the browser shows a security warning. These warnings have been updated to be simple and straightforward on why that particular site might not be safe.

This release brings biometric support for Web Authentication using Windows Hello on Windows 10 as well. With the upcoming release of Windows 10, it will be possible for users to sign into compatible websites with facial recognition, a fingerprint, a PIN or security key.
