The release of the gaming phone Black Shark 2 is upon us, despite the major lack of games to make the device worth the effort. Smartphone manufacturers are trying all sorts of things in a race to build “full-screen” smartphones. This has involved notches, punch holes, pop-up mechanisms, and now sliders. Renders of an unannounced ZTE handset have surfaced online and it’s claimed that this device, the Axon S, will have a slider that moves horizontally to reveal the camera system.
The images show that the ZTE Axon S display is going to slide sideways to reveal the front facing cameras as well as the triple camera system at the back. This will allow the company to further reduce the bezels on this device and claim a bonkers screen-to-body-ratio for marketing purposes.
However, this is the first instance of a sideways slider being used to hold the cameras. Many of the solutions that we have seen so far involve vertical sliding mechanisms and the punch hole which every other manufacturer seems to be opting for this year.
The report mentions that the Axon S will have a triple rear camera with a 48 megapixel main sensor, a 19 megapixel secondary sensor with a third sensor that offers 5x optical zoom. At least one of the cameras is said to feature a f/1.7-2.4 variable aperture.
ZTE hasn’t acknowledged the existence of this device as yet so it’s unclear when we can expect it to arrive and for how much.

With Tesla unveiling an affordable SUV a few days ago, Fisker has now announced that it’s going to build a similar electric SUV as well. The company has said that this SUV will be priced under $40,000 and will have some advantages over its rivals. This includes greater range compared to the base Model Y variant.
Fisker is aiming to achieve a 300 mile range on the standard variant of its electric SUV with an 80kWh battery compared to the 230 miles of range customers will get with the standard Model Y. Fisker’s vehicle will also have a radar on the grill and the ability to enjoy an “extended open-air atmosphere” with just the press of a button. The company will also offer optional extras such as all-wheel drive and dual motors.
People who are interested in seeing what the company has to offer will have to wait. Fisker doesn’t expect to have a drivable prototype of the vehicle ready before the end of this year. This means that a production model will most likely not be ready until 2021.
So expect deliveries to begin in the second half of 2021 if there are no delays. That’s also when Tesla is looking to start deliveries of the Model Y.
