Apple launches new iPad Air and iPad mini

Apple has refreshed its iPad lineup with a press release. The company is (finally) updating the iPad mini and adding a new iPad Air. This model sits between the entry-level 9.7-inch iPad and the 11-inch iPad Pro in the lineup.

All new models now support the Apple Pencil, but you might want to double check your iPad model before buying one. The new iPad models released today work with the first-gen Apple Pencil, not the new Apple Pencil that supports magnetic charging and pairing.

So let’s look at those new iPads. First, the iPad mini hasn’t been refreshed in three years and a half. Many people believed that Apple would simply drop the model as smartphones got bigger. But the iPad mini is making a surprise comeback.

It looks identical to the previous 2015 model. But everything has been updated inside the device. It now features an A12 chip (the system on a chip designed for the iPhone XS), a 7.9-inch display that is 25 percent brighter, features a wider range of colors and works with True Tone. And it also works with the Apple Pencil.

Unlike with the iPad Pro, the iPad mini still features a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, a Lightning port and a headphone jack. You can buy it today for $399 for 64GB. You can choose to pay more for 256GB of storage and cellular connectivity. It comes in silver, space gray and gold.

Second, the iPad Air. While the name sounds familiar, this is a new device in the iPad lineup. When Apple introduced the new iPad Pro models back in October, Apple raised the prices on this segment of the market.

This new iPad Air is a bit cheaper than the 11-inch iPad Pro and looks more or less like the previous generation 10.5-inch iPad Pro — I know it’s confusing. The iPad Air now features an A12 chip, which should represent a significant upgrade over the previous generation iPad Pro that featured an A10X. The iPad Air works with the Smart Keyboard.

You can buy the device today for $499 with 64GB of storage. You can choose to pay more for 256GB of storage and cellular connectivity. It comes in silver, space gray and gold.

Tesla Model 3 mid range battery pack option axed

Tesla frequently makes changes to its line of EVs, and the most recent change sees a version of the Model 3 EV being discontinued. The mid-range battery pack has been discontinued after only being around since October 2018. That battery pack was launched as a way to offer cheaper versions of the Model 3, but with the long-anticipated $35,000 Model … Continue reading

Twitter Testing A Conversation Subscription Feature

If you’ve ever wanted to follow the comments on a Twitter post, you will either need to “heart” the post or comment on it to get notified. This is pretty standard, but at the same time giving a post a “heart” could be seen as endorsing it, and if you’d rather not do that or leave a comment, Twitter might have a new feature in the works that they are testing.

According to researcher Jane Manchun Wong (via Engadget), she discovered that Twitter is testing out some kind of conversation subscription feature. What this means is that users will be able to “subscribe” to tweets and be notified of its subsequent conversations without needing to like it or dropping a comment of your own.

Twitter has since confirmed that this feature is indeed in the works and that it is part of their work to make Twitter more “conversational”. There is no word on when the feature will be rolled out to users, but it could be worth keeping an eye out for if this is something that you think will come in handy.

That being said, Twitter does test new features out every now and then so it is unclear if this feature will actually make its debut or if there could be changes made to it ahead of its public rollout.

DC Universe To Let You Try Its Shows For Free

Disney will be launching Disney+ later this year where the streaming platform is expected to play home to Marvel shows. DC has since responded in kind with DC Universe, its own streaming service which will stream DC related content. The good news is that if you’re considering subscribing to it, you can now try before you buy.

According to a tweet by DC Universe, they have launched a new initiative in which they will be making the first episodes of some of its shows – Titans, Doom Patrol, and Young Justice: Outsiders – free to stream. It is a limited offer that starts from the 15th of March and runs until the 29th of March.

Trial subscriptions aren’t new but the upside to DC Universe’s offering is that users won’t need to sign up or provide any payment details. Instead they’ll be able to watch the first episodes for free straightaway without any catch. This lowers the barrier of entry where some users might be hesitant to sign up and provide their particulars.

That being said, DC Universe is currently priced at $8 a month which makes it a lot cheaper than other services out there, although at the moment it does feel like it is a bit more limited than the competition.

What's the Least Useful Body Part?

We’re all familiar with the flashy, big-ticket organs: the heart, the brain, the lungs. Their celebrity often obscures the work—humbler, less heroic, but often no less essential to the maintenance of a life—performed by those organs only doctors know about: the body’s back-up players, pulsing and pumping in relative…

James Gunn’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Will Be A ‘Total Reboot’

DCEU’s Suicide Squad had a lot of promise in its premise, but unfortunately the movie wasn’t particularly well-received when it was released. We know that a sequel is in the works but apparently it won’t be a direct sequel to the first movie. Instead it is expected to be a “total reboot” of Suicide Squad.

This is according to Producer Peter Safran who spoke to Joblo who said, “First of all, we don’t call it Suicide Squad 2 ‘cause it’s a total reboot, so it’s The Suicide Squad and I think people should be extremely excited about it. It’s everything you would hope from a James Gunn script and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot.”

As Safran mentions, Gunn will be directing the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. Given his experience at putting rag-tag teams of “heroes” together like in Guardians of the Galaxy, we reckon that he could do a good job with the new Suicide Squad movie. It is expected that Margot Robbie will be returning to reprise her role as Harley Quinn, and more recently there were rumors that actor Idris Elba could replace Will Smith as Deadshot due to scheduling conflicts on Smith’s end.

The movie is currently pegged for a release in 2021 which means that there is still quite a long ways to go, but with it being a reboot and with Gunn directing, we are definitely looking forward to it.
