Dropbox Only Allows Three Devices On Its Free Plan Now

Dropbox has quietly made a change that’s going to affect all of its users who are on the free plan. It no longer allows unlimited device linking for free accounts. This means that unless users upgrade to one of its paid plans which start at just over $8 per month, they will be restricted to three devices for a single account.

Dropbox actually rolled out this change earlier this month and it has gone unnoticed for some time. The folks at Liliputing spotted it and more information from Dropbox reveals that users who linked more than three devices to their free plan before March 2019 won’t be affected by this change. They will retain all of the devices they linked to their account prior to this month.

This will irk new users or existing users who want to add another device, for example, when they get a new phone or computer. They won’t be allowed to add more even if they have more than three previously linked devices.

New users will obviously not be able to go over the three device limit at all. Mobile devices and PC all make up the count, so if you have a PC, phone, and tablet linked to an account, your limit is up. This is evidently a move by Dropbox to entice people to pay for its premium plans which are an important source of revenue for the company.

Apple Confirms WWDC 2019 Dates

The annual Worldwide Developers’ Conference is where Apple makes its important software announcements for the year. The event takes place in the summer and it won’t be any different this year. Apple has confirmed the WWDC 2019 dates today. One can normally expect the company to unveil new versions of iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS at the event.

“Write code. Blow minds,” is the official tagline for this year’s Worldwide Developers’ Conference. The graphic that Apple has shared also depicts a robot having its mind blown by all sorts of Apple software.

Many are excited to see what iOS 13 is going to bring to the table. It will be unveiled at WWDC 2019 and is expected to bring major user interface changes for the company’s iOS devices. Earlier rumors have suggested that Apple has been working on significant UI changes which it will introduce with this iteration.

Apple doesn’t really announce new hardware products at WWDC so it’s unclear if any will be on the agenda this year. There has been some talk about the modular Mac Pro and unveiling it in a room full of developers who are very keen about Apple’s products would seem to make perfect sense. Still, it’s not confirmed if the company will do that.

WWDC 2019 takes place June 3rd through June 7th. Apple also has another event coming up later this month on the 25th. That’s where the company is expected to unveil its TV streaming service.

Boeing 737 Max Planes Have Been Grounded In The U.S.

The pressure has been building on the Federal Aviation Administration to ground the Boeing 737 Max fleet in the United States following the tragic Ethiopian Airlines crash on Sunday. China was the first country to ground the jet amid concerns that the cause of this crash might be similar to that of the Lion Air crash six months ago which also involved a Boeing 737 Max 8. Merely a day after the FAA expressed confidence in the jet, it has now announced that the jet has been grounded.

The United States has issued an emergency order to ground the Boeing 737 Max 8 and the 737 Max 9 aircraft. Many other countries across the globe have taken similar actions over the past week, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Indonesia, Australia, and more.

The decision to issue the emergency order was made by President Donald Trump following consultations with FAA acting director Daniel Elwell and US transportation secretary Elaine Chao. He also spoke with Boeing’s CEO about the move. Once the order was issued, any 737 Max jet in the air was to be grounded after it reached the destination while those on the ground were grounded until further notice with immediate effect.

Boeing sent out its own press release after the order came out, saying that “Boeing has determined — out of an abundance of caution and in order to reassure the flying public of the aircraft’s safety — to recommend to the FAA the temporary suspension of operations of the entire global fleet of 371 737 MAX aircraft.”

Huawei Confirms Its Own OS Will Replace Android In Worst Case Scenario

It has long been rumored that Huawei has built its own operating system. Not that lightweight OS that it has running on its new smartwatches, but a full-fledged OS which could replace Android on its smartphones. The company has now confirmed the existence of the operating system while pointing out that it’s will serve as an alternative to Android in the worst case scenario. That involves Huawei being cut off from licensing Google’s Android.

That worst case scenario almost came true for ZTE as it was hit by a ban in the United States for violating an earlier agreement related to a sanctions violation. ZTE later settled its matters with the authorities and was able to operate its business once again.

Huawei has confirmed to the South China Morning Post that it has developed its own operating system for both smartphones and computers. It plans to use them on devices if access to Android is cut off. The proprietary OS has been developed keeping in mind that the tensions between Huawei and the United States could impact the availability of U.S.-made Android.

“We have prepared our own operating system, if it turns out we can no longer use these systems [Android], we will be ready and have our plan B,” said Huawei’s mobile boss Richard Yu Chengdong.

A spokesperson for the company added that Huawei doesn’t expect to use the proprietary OS, adding that “and to be honest, we don’t want to use them.” The spokesperson also said that Huawei fully supports its partners’ operating systems, and that “we love using them and our customers love using them. Android and Windows will always remain our first choices.”

With trade tensions escalating between the United States and China and Huawei’s ongoing issues with the U.S. government, it’s no surprise that the company has now confirmed that it does have an alternative on hand should access be cut to software licensed from U.S. companies.
