Apple’s News And Magazine Subscription Service Hinted At In Latest macOS Beta

Apple had recently confirmed that they would be hosting an event on the 25th of March. Details about the event are scarce, but the name of the event, “It’s Show Time”, seems to confirm that it will most likely see Apple announce their streaming service. In addition to that, there have also been rumors that Apple might use the event to launch their new news and magazines subscription service as well.

In fact according to developer Steve Troughton-Smith, he has discovered some evidence within the latest macOS beta that hints that such a service is in the works. According to Troughton-Smith, “There’s a bunch you can discern about Apple News’ magazines from what’s in the OS betas: for example, the magazines are PDF-based (like most iPad magazines), and issues can be stored offline. The magazine genres are listed as pictured. Most of its code is written in Swift.”

It has been rumored that Apple might be looking to revamp its news service. The company had previously acquired Texture, which for those unfamiliar used to be known as the Netflix for magazines where it gave users unlimited access to magazines for a monthly subscription. The rumors are saying that Apple could now be looking to bundle its news and magazines together, and possibly put them all under a single subscription service.

Either way we should have the official details in the coming weeks, so be sure to check back with us then for the updates.

Microsoft’s Seeing AI App Lets The Visually Impaired ‘See’ Photos By Touch

A couple of years ago, Microsoft launched a new app called Seeing AI. The app is designed to help the visually impaired “see” the world around them by using your smartphone’s camera, which in turn then helps to describe what the phone sees to the user through the use of artificial intelligence.

Now according to Microsoft, the company has announced some improvements they have made to the app where it will now be able to describe photos on the phone to the user by them touching it. According to Microsoft, “Leveraging the Custom Vision Service in tandem with the Computer Vision API, this new feature enables users to tap their finger to an image on a touch-screen to hear a description of objects within an image and the spatial relationship between them.”

Microsoft has also announced that they will now be bringing support onto the iPad which means that if you prefer using the app on a larger device, then the iPad is an option to check out. “iPad support is particularly important to individuals using Seeing AI in academic or other professional settings where they are unable to use a cellular device.”

We expect that these won’t be the only improvements Microsoft will be making, but these are some of the latest ones so do update the app if you’d like to get access to all of the new features.

Windows 10 Will Now Uninstall And Block Buggy Updates

We’re sure many of us have encountered updates in our software that renders it useless, and depending on how tech savvy, you might be at a loss of what to do when that happens. Thankfully Microsoft is hoping to do something about it in a new feature for Windows 10 where the operating system will be smart enough to uninstall buggy updates.

This seems to only apply to updates that causes a computer to experience startup failure, where if such an event occurs, Windows 10 will remove that update and users will be greeted by a notification which reads, “We removed some recently installed updates to recover your device from a startup failure.”

According to Microsoft this is pretty much a last-ditch attempt. “If Windows detects this, it will try to resolve the failure by uninstalling recently installed updates. This is only done when all other automatic recovery attempts have been unsuccessful.” In addition to being able to uninstall the problematic update, Microsoft also announced that they will block the update from installing itself automatically for the next 30 days.

This is meant to give the company and their partners time to investigate the problem and to fix the issues in which hopefully a patched update will be released within that window. Once the 30 days has passed, Windows will try to install the update again. Given how Microsoft just recently ran into some issues with a Windows 10 update, this seems like a much-welcome feature to have.
