AI algorithms could allow robots to learn to move without programming

Human babies are unique in the animal world in that they are born with no ability to care for themselves or walk. Other animal species have offspring that are ready to run with the herd within a very short time of being born. Animals like giraffe or wildebeests need no instruction to walk; they just do it. Microsoft Launches Revamped Skype For Web, Only Works In Edge And Chrome

Accessing Skype through the web isn’t exactly new. However Microsoft has since launched an updated and revamped version of the chat client where if you’re using a computer without Skype installed, you’ll still be able to access some of its features through your browser. However there is a catch.

If you’re using any other browser besides Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, it seems that Skype for web won’t work. This pretty much covers all other browsers such as Apple’s Safari, Mozilla’s Firefox, and Opera. This was confirmed in a statement made to VentureBeat where due to features like calling and real-time media and how different browsers implement such technology, Microsoft has decided to only support Edge and Chrome for now.

It is unclear as to whether or not Microsoft will eventually roll out support for other browsers, but if you absolutely have to use Skype, then we suggest either downloading the dedicated desktop client or use a different browser.

The latest version of Skype for the web will bring about new and improved features, such as HD video calling, call recording, notifications panel, the ability to search within conversations, and also a chat media gallery where users will be able to access links and photos that have been sent/received. If this sounds like something you might be interested in checking out, head on over to its website for the details.

Android Q’s Developer Preview Could Be Released Soon

From what we know about Google’s release habits, they typically release a developer preview for Android early in the year. This will later be followed by an official announcement at Google I/O where they detail some of the features and changes we can expect, and then a full release in the later part of the year.

Given that we’re now towards the end of Q1 2019, it stands to believe that we could be approaching the release of the developer preview. In fact in a tweet by XDA Developers’ editor-in-chief, Mishaal Rahman, the bug tracker for Android Q has already been opened which suggests that the release of the developer preview could be close at hand.

The bug tracker is where developers can submit bugs that they have discovered and keep track of which are being worked on. This would make sense for software that has been released (or is about to be released), hence the speculation. There is also a link to check for existing bug filters with the date created after March 11th, suggesting that the launch could be close at hand.

XDA Developers had actually managed to get their hands on an early build of the operating system where they have dissected its contents. This has led to revelations such as a desktop mode, a system-wide dark mode, and also improved privacy tools.

Google’s Allo Will Be Officially Shutting Down On The 12th Of March

Last year Google announced and confirmed that they would be shutting down its Allo messaging service in March of 2019. The company did not mention when in March, but if you were to surf on over to its website, a banner at the top of the page states that the shut down will occur on the 12th of March, which is today.

We suppose a bit more earlier notice would have been preferable, but to be fair Google did announce their plans 3 months ago. For those who have been using the service up until today or more recently, Google has a support page where you will be able to find out how to download and save your chat histories, and also how to backup photos and media files received through Allo to Google Photos.

Allo was originally announced at Google I/O a couple of years ago where from what we could tell, was Google’s way of giving consumers a new platform to chat on, especially with the company starting to shift Hangouts towards enterprise users. Unfortunately it seems that Allo never quite took which led to Google’s decision to shut it down. In the meantime Duo, Google’s video and audio call app, is still very much alive and well where Google even launched a web client for it.
