NVIDIA Ends 3D Vision Support Next Month

Stereoscopic 3D may have been all the rage a few years ago but you don’t hear about it much now, at least in the context of home entertainment. Many feel that its time is up and now so does NVIDIA, apparently. The company has confirmed that it’s going to end support for 3D Vision next month.

NVIDIA has confirmed that once the final driver from Release 418 is posted in April 2019, GeForce Game Ready Drivers will no longer have support for NVIDIA 3D Vision. It recommends those who are interested in utilizing 3D Vision to remain on a Release 418 driver. The company does confirm that its support team will continue to address critical driver issues for 3D Vision in Release 418 through April 2020.

It also mentions that 3DTV Play, its tool that allows for 3D gaming with 3D TVs, is now included for free in Release 418. It’s no longer going to be available as a standalone download. NVIDIA will continue to offer its 3D Vision Video Player as a standalone download for free until the end of this year.

NVIDIA hasn’t really explained why it has decided to make this change now. It could simply be due to the fact that not a lot of people are using this technology anymore. In that case, it doesn’t really make sense for the company to continue supporting 3D Vision.
