Leica Q2 Full-Frame Camera Announced For $5,000

Back in 2015, Leica announced its Leica Q camera. It represented an interesting new direction for the company as it would essentially compete with other compact offers like the Sony RX1 and Fujifilm’s X100 series of premium compact cameras. If you liked what you saw but thought that maybe a successor would iron out the kinks, you’re in luck as Leica has since officially announced the Leica Q2.

The company had previously cautioned customers against waiting for the Q2, and given that the camera is now official after four years, we reckon that’s long enough to wait. The Q2 will be featuring the use of a fixed 28mm Summilux ASPH lens with an aperture of f/1.7. It is wide enough where it can be potentially used for landscapes, and also zoomed in enough where it could also be used for street photography.

It also sports a whopping 47.3MP full-frame sensor, the ability to simulate focal lengths which means that if 28mm is too wide for you, you can opt to simulate the focal lengths of 35mm, 50mm, an d 70mm. It also the ability to capture 4K video up to 30 frames per second, and also Full HD video at up to 120 frames per second. Leica is also boasting how the camera has the ability to focus on its subject in just 0.15 seconds.

There will also be a 3.68MP OLED viewfinder, a 3-inch touchscreen display on the back, and it can also capture up to 10 photos per second. As expect of Leica cameras, the Q2 does not come cheap where it will be priced at $5,000.

Facebook Testing A Blindingly White UI For Its Android App

One of Facebook’s more readily identifiable features is the use of blue where the color is featured prominently in its logo and its website. This is also applicable for its mobile app, but according to a report from XDA Developers, it seems that Facebook could be trying to create a cleaner look.

The report claims that Facebook is testing out a brand new UI on its Android app where the company has seemingly purged the blue from the app’s design in favor of white. This creates a very stark and almost blinding look for the app, although we can’t say that it looks very good. However it is possible that this is only a test which means that Facebook might not have any concrete plans to release it.

At the same time it is also a little contradicting because it wasn’t too long ago that Facebook Messenger gained the ability to enable dark mode, so for Facebook to opt to go in a completely opposite direction for its mobile app is a bit strange. That being said, it is unclear how many users are seeing this new color scheme as it appears to have been enabled server side, meaning that there is nothing users need to do on their end to enable it.

Google had previously confirmed that dark mode actually plays a pretty big role in helping reduce battery consumption on our phones, so if you’re someone who spends a lot of time on Facebook, this potentially new color scheme might not do your battery any favors.

Alleged Photo Of Entry-Level Nikon Z1 Camera Leaked

As some of you might be aware, Nikon is trying their hand at mirrorless cameras once again. In 2018 the company launched the Nikon Z6 and Z7 cameras that have since been met with good reviews, but they aren’t the cheapest cameras around either. However according to a report from Nikon Rumors, the company could be planning an entry-level unit.

The publication has managed to get their hands on what appears to be a leaked photo of the Nikon Z1, the company’s rumored entry-level mirrorless camera. As you can see from the image, which shows the top portion of the camera, it is very different from Nikon’s Z6 and Z7 cameras. It looks a lot more “basic” and simple compared to the other cameras, suggesting that it might be less feature packed in order to try and keep costs down.

There is no word on how much the camera could cost, but by comparison, the Nikon Z6 is priced at $2,000 for body-only, while the Z7 is priced at $3,400 for body-only, so we can only assume (and hope) that the Z1 will be below those prices. Canon themselves have also launched an entry-level mirrorless camera in the form of the EOS RP, so it stands to reason that Nikon might have something as well.

We have no idea when the camera will be launched but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information in the future.
