Various concepts for dealing with asteroids on a path toward Earth have been proposed, and among them is the idea of asteroid-smashing. Under such an arrangement, the idea goes, humanity could smash something fairly large into an asteroid to deflect it or, even better, totally destroy it. That may not be the option some though it was, though, at least … Continue reading
Smartphones cameras are getting ridiculously good these days. Some have whopping 48 megapixel sensors, others have a variety of lenses to complement that. Still others are working on giving smartphone cameras up to 5x or even 10x optical zoom. But due to their slim designs, smartphones can never compete with DSLRs in the variety and quality of professional lenses. That’s … Continue reading
If you’re buying a battery pack in 2019, you’re probably looking at packs that support USB-C Power Delivery, the fast-charging spec that can quickly recharge modern laptops, the Nintendo Switch, and the latest phones. Google Duo is the company’s answer to video calls. Previously Google had largely relied on Hangouts for video and audio calls, but with Hangouts now focused more on enterprise users, those who wanted to make video or audio calls over the internet had to use Duo (as one of the many alternatives).
Now the good news is that it looks like Duo’s functionality is increasing because according to a report from Android Police, it seems that if you’re using a Google Home device, you should be able to place a Duo audio call using it. Previously Google had rolled out support for Duo video calls on its Home Hub device.
Google had also stated back then that the Home Hub would support audio calls too, so it makes sense that the feature would also expand to other Home devices as well. Now Google has yet to officially announce anything and it is unclear how users can get it to work, but Android Police has tried it out themselves and found that it does work. Maybe it is getting pushed out in stages or maybe it’s currently being tested, but either way it is a feature to look out for.
In the meantime Duo can also now be accessed from the web if you do want to place a call without having to reach for your phone.

With the Samsung Galaxy S10 being the latest and greatest phones from Samsung, it’s not surprising that their handsets would eventually get HDR certified by Netflix. If you are using any of the models that were recently announced, including the lower-end Galaxy S10e, Netflix has updated its support page where it lists all the Galaxy S10 handsets as being HDR compatible.
This should result in videos that offer up more vivid colors as expected from HDR, so if you wanted to take full advantage of the display of the phone, this could be one of the ways of doing it. In addition to support for HDR, unsurprisingly all three Galaxy S10 models will also support Netflix in HD.
However these aren’t the only devices that will get support. Netflix also lists the Galaxy M10, M20, and M30 has devices that will support HD. The company has also announced that pretty much all devices running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675, 710, or 855 platforms will also support HD moving forwards.
This means that even if you don’t see your device mentioned specifically on the list, as long as it is powered by any of the Kirin or Snapdragon processors listed, you should be able to stream Netflix in HD. HDR will be a different story so you will need to check from time to time to see if your handset has made the list.

The Nintendo Switch, designed primarily as a gaming device, is slowly starting to become a modder’s dream. Previously we saw how some developers managed to get Android Q up and running on the console (albeit in somewhat limited form), and now it seems that someone has managed to get Windows 10 running on the console as well.
In a post on Twitter by @imbushuo (via TechRadar), he shows a photo of the Nintendo Switch running with Windows 10 in the background. However there are a couple of catches, one of which is that the version running is the Windows 10 ARM version. Secondly it seems that the software isn’t quite fully functional yet as it only boots to the Windows logo and recovery screen, but that’s pretty much the extent.
However according to the developer, he believes that he will eventually be able to get Windows 10 running on the console. We suppose that makes sense as the Switch shares almost the same guts as a tablet, where it is powered by a mobile processor in the form of the NVIDIA Tegra 1. The developer had also previously managed to get Windows 10 up and running on the Raspberry Pi and the Lumia 950 XL, so why not the Switch, right?
That being said, we should caution you that modding your Switch will more than likely void its warranty, and there is also the issue of Nintendo potentially banning your account if you are caught using a modified console.

Unlike our desktop websites where if you use browsers like Chrome, it will come with a built-in translation feature, or you could simply copy the URL and take it to Google Translate to have it translated to whatever language you want. While translating on mobile is more than possible, Microsoft is making it easier for users with its Edge browser.
The company has recently issued an update for its Edge browser for iOS devices where it will now come with an instant translation feature. What this means is that when you’re browsing the web and come across a page that’s in a different language than yours, you should receive a popup notification asking users if they want that page translated for them.
This will function similarly to how Google Translate works on your desktop, where you will be given the option to view the website in its original language again if you choose, or view the translated version. The update will enable the translation by default in your settings, but you will be able to disable it if you’d rather not. The update should already be live so head on over to the iOS App Store to get it if you haven’t done so already.

One of the security features of Facebook was that users could attach their phone numbers to their accounts for 2FA, making it a bit more secure compared to just using a username and password system. Unfortunately it seems that if you do use Facebook’s 2FA system, your profile can be easily found using your phone number.
In a post on Twitter by Jeremy Burge of Emojipedia (via 9to5Mac), he discovered that your phone number can be searchable. “For years Facebook claimed the adding a phone number for 2FA was only for security. Now it can be searched and there’s no way to disable that.” This means that in the event that someone uploads their contacts to Facebook, you will show up as one of their suggested friends if you’ve used your phone number for 2FA purposes.
This also means that in the event where you’re trying to keep your profile as hidden or private as possible, this could still let others find you. Unfortunately as Burge points out, there is no way for users to disable this feature. Instead the best that you can do is to restrict your phone number settings so that only friends can search for it, but by default it is set to “everyone”.
This is also not the first time Facebook has come under fire for how they handle the phone numbers of its users. Last year they were found using 2FA phone numbers for ad targeting. In the meantime if you’d like to change your settings, head on over here where you’ll be able to change “Who can look you up using the phone number you provided?” to just friends.
