Boeing 737 MAX MCAS updated to prevent future crashes

One aphorism that should never be used in aviation is “better late than never”. Considering the safety of hundreds of lives, plane makers and regulators have the legal and moral obligation to ensure that new technologies are error-free before they are used, not after they have cost lives. That’s the tragedy that Boeing is hoping won’t happen again after it … Continue reading

Razer Phone 3 delay blamed on 5G rollout

Network operators and smartphone makers were all making noise about 5G at last month’s MWC. But while almost all of them promise to be 5G-ready, many skirted around the fact that 5G itself isn’t that ready. It won’t be until later this year that true 5G networks will be available and only in then in select markets only. That “awkward … Continue reading

Benchmarks Show Apple’s New iMacs Represent A 75% Speed Increase

For almost two years, Apple failed to update its iMac lineup, at least until last week where the company finally updated its iMac with new processors. So this begs the question of whether or not users should bother to upgrade to the latest model, and it seems that you should, based on recent benchmarks.

According to recent benchmarks which tested the new high-end iMacs, it shows that it represents a 75% speed increase over its predecessors. We’re looking at a single-core score of 6,314 and a multi-core score of 33,713. This is versus the previous model which managed to score 5,684 for single-core, and 19,372 for multi-core.

That being said, we suppose it’s not a surprise that the new iMacs are faster than its predecessors, but at a 75% increase in speed, it does seem like it might be worth the upgrade if you have the cash for it. The new iMacs feature Intel’s 8th-gen processors and while they might not necessarily be sporting new designs (which we’re sure many have hoped for), they do appear to be a pretty decent upgrade.

The new iMacs are priced starting at $1,299 for the 21.5-inch model, and $1,799 for the 27-inch 5K model.

New Research Finds At Least 36 New Security Flaws In LTE

Sometimes we tend to take our technology for granted and assume that it should just work. However, it isn’t always the case as researchers have recently found out. According to a report out of South Korea (via Engadget), it seems that at least 36 new security flaws have been discovered within LTE.

Since LTE is what our phones, tablets, and even cars connect to, it sounds like it could be pretty serious. These vulnerabilities opens up the possibility of being hacked, like being eavesdropped on, being disconnected, or having the data controlled by someone else. It also seems that this issue is not necessarily consistent, meaning that different carriers could have different flaws, so there is no one solution to fix everything.

The researchers plan on sharing their findings at a conference later this May. They are also sharing the tool they created to help find these flaws with carriers and device makers. This is to help them identify the flaws by themselves and also to potentially come up with a fix for them. So far we haven’t really heard any reports of these flaws being exploited, so while they are out there, the good news is that no one has figured out a way to take advantage of them yet.

Hopefully, a fix will be released in time to prevent anything untoward from happening.

Could No Man’s Sky Be Coming To Apple Arcade?

The other day, Apple announced their new Apple Arcade gaming service that will be launching later this year. Now according to some speculation, it seems that one of the games that could be part of the new gaming service could be No Man’s Sky, the somewhat controversial indie game that launched a while ago.

This is according to a tweet by Peter Hunt who received a promotional email for the upcoming service. In the email there was an image attached that shows No Man’s Sky running in the background. This has led to speculation that Hello Games could potentially be bringing the game over to Apple Arcade, and thus iOS and Apple TV devices.

Now before you get too excited, there are some who believe that the image of No Man’s Sky could be either used as a placeholder or it could be used as a wrong image for a different game. As Pocket Gamer points out, there is a thread on Reddit which suggests that Apple could have meant to refer to Sky: Light Awaits, not No Man’s Sky.

However, the difference in the games are pretty obvious, not to mention the name “No Man’s Sky” is clearly stated in the image, meaning that it would be almost impossible for anyone to mistake the game for another. In any case, take it with a grain of salt for now but until we get a confirmation or a denial, try to temper your expectations.
