Facebook has confirmed today that it will now start selling its Portal smart display outside the United States. It’s also adding new features to the device, some of which were confirmed at the company’s F8 developers’ conference today. The Portal and Portal+ have only been available in the United States and Canada so far.
Facebook confirmed today that it will begin selling the Portal and Portal+ in Europe by the fall this year. The company is also adding support for WhatsApp calls. Some other new features include a morning summary which will provide updates on upcoming events, more Alexa skills, Amazon Prime video playback, and the ability to send private video messages.
It’s also going to be possible to send Instagram photos to the Portal. They will show up on the display when the user is not on a call. Many of these features have been awaited so it’s good that the company will be following through with them.
Europe will be the first region outside the United States and Canada to get the Portal smart display. It remains to be seen if the company has any plans of bringing it to any additional markets across the globe in the near future.
