Watch This Chimpanzee Browse Instagram On An iPhone Like A Normal Person

Tech and animals don’t always go so well together, namely due to the fact that tech has been designed for humans and animals don’t usually understand the purpose of them. However, recently in a video shared on Instagram by Mike Holston (@therealtarzann), it shows a chimpanzee browsing Instagram on an iPhone like a normal person.

In the video, the chimpanzee in question is watching a video featuring other monkeys. The animal even manages to take advantage of gestures, where it swipes back to go back to the profile before tapping on other photos and videos and swiping back again. It is actually kind of eerie how precisely the chimpanzee is able to use Instagram, and we suppose goes to show how intelligent some animals are and how we can underestimate them at times.

That being said, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen animals interacting with tech gadgets, although this could probably be one of the most precise interactions that we’ve seen to date. The chimp’s movements and gestures seem almost human-like in nature, and if you have a minute or so to spare, it might be worth checking out the video below. The post has since gone viral where it has managed to rack up around 1.5 million views with over 8,000 comments.

Amazon Prime Delivery Times Will Soon Drop To Just One Day

The problem with online shopping is that you need to wait for your goods to arrive. Depending on the retailer, the delivery time can vary, which is how Amazon has stayed ahead of the competition where through its Prime membership, customers can expect free two-day deliveries.

However, if you are still holding out on purchasing a Prime subscription, you might want to rethink that because, during Amazon’s Q1 earnings report, the company’s CFO Brian Olsavsky has revealed that the company is working to change that two-day delivery timeline to just one-day. This means that your orders placed today will be delivered the next day.

Granted the free two-day shipping is already pretty fast, but we reckon shrinking that to one-day will encourage customers to sign up for a Prime membership or to encourage their shopping on Amazon’s platform. The Prime subscription also offers up other perks besides free shipping, such as access to music, videos, and also Prime-exclusive deals.

There is no word on when the changes are expected to be rolled out, but according to Olsavsky, “We’re currently working on evolving our Prime shipping program, which has historically been a two-day program, to a one-day shipping program. We’ll be building most of this capacity through the year in 2019.”

Amazon Could Launch Hi-Def Music Streaming By End Of 2019

Amazon’s music streaming service has been around for a while now, but more recently the company seems to be stepping up their efforts to try and grab a larger slice of the pie. For example, it was just last week that Amazon announced a free ad-supported listening tier that would allow non-Prime members to enjoy their streaming services.

Now in a new report from Music Business Worldwide, they are claiming that Amazon isn’t quite done with its music streaming service yet. The publication has heard that Amazon could be looking to challenge the likes of Tidal by launching a hi-def service that could be ready by the end of the year.

At the moment, the majority of music streaming services offer “normal” bitrate streams, which for the most part is more than sufficient. However, Amazon is hoping that this new hi-def offering will appeal to more audiophile customers. According to the publication’s source, they claim that the hi-def streaming will be of a better bitrate and could actually be better than CD quality.

That being said, we’re not sure how many customers might actually take advantage of this. The problem with higher-quality files is that they are larger in terms of file size, meaning that there might be instances the stream won’t be as smooth compared to regular streams. Then there is also the issue of audio, where if you don’t have the right hardware that can take advantage of the higher-quality stream, then there really is not much point.

iPad Pro With 5G Might Only Arrive In 2021

According to the rumors, Apple is expected to launch its 5G iPhone in 2020. Based on Apple’s history, the company tends to introduce new features to its iPhones first before it is eventually brought over to the iPad. This was the case with features such as Touch ID and Face ID, and it could be the same for 5G as well.

Unfortunately, it seems that a 5G iPad might not arrive until 2021. This is according to a report from Economic Daily News who cites top Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo whose report claims that 5G for the iPad might not arrive until two years later. This means that if you’re hoping to enjoy 5G speeds on your iPad, your best bet would be to use a 5G smartphone as a hotspot.

Kuo claims that Apple is expected to introduce liquid crystal polymer boards into its iPad refresh later this year, with the idea being that it will help to reduce signal loss and improve networking performance. This is apparently a precursor to Apple introducing 5G to its iPad lineup. It might be a bit disappointing to some that they might have to wait 2 years for a 5G capable iPad, but LTE is already plenty fast (for the most part), so maybe it won’t hurt to wait and let the tech mature as well.

High-Res iPhone 11 Renders Hints At Subtle Redesign

At the moment no one really knows what Apple’s 2019 iPhones will look like. The company, for the most part, has been employing a similar-ish design over the past couple of years, and a recent 3D printed mockup suggests that the changes won’t be too drastic. Now thanks to a series of renders shared by Cashkaro in collaboration with @OnLeaks, we have an idea of what we could expect.

At a glance, the renders don’t seem too different from the current iPhone models. The most obvious design change would be the back of the phone where the camera is, and where Apple is rumored to introduce a triple camera setup. However, the renders also show that Apple could introduce a new glass design on the back, and that they could also be redesigning the mute switch.

As the moment, the mute switch on the iPhone can be activated or deactivated by flipping it up or down while the phone is being held. However, based on these designs, it seems that Apple could be changing it so that the switch flips top to bottom. If this is true, it would mark the first major redesign to the mute switch since the mute switch’s orientation has more or less remain unchanged since the iPhone was first introduced.

Apart from that, it doesn’t seem too different from last year’s models. It’s not a bad thing, although it’s not particularly exciting ether, but until we get the official word, it’s probably best to take these renders with a grain of salt for now.

Move Over Graphene, Borophene Is Now The New ‘In’ Thing

Image credit – Jurii @ Wikipedia Commons

For years, many had hailed graphene as the new wonder material that everyone was excited to work with. One of the reasons is because unlike other materials, graphene is light and strong where we have seen some applications like a bulletproof suit. We’ve also seen it discussed as a potential replacement to lithium batteries.

However, as is the case with science, it looks like graphene is no longer the cool kid in school and has since been replaced with a new wonder material in the form of borophene. The concept of borophene has been theorized about back in the 1990s, but it was only until 2015 that scientists managed to synthesize it.

What makes borophene more exciting than graphene is how it has been found to be stronger than graphene and also more flexible. It also makes for a great conductor of heat and electricity, and researchers and envisioning how borophene could be used to store metal ions in batteries. It can also store over 15% of its weight in hydrogen, making it a better storage material compared to others.

Unfortunately, it might be a while before we start seeing borophene batteries. This is due the fact that scientists need to figure out a way to make the material in large quantities, and also its reactivity means that working with it can be difficult.

Walmart Opens Its AI Powered Store To The Public

As if Walmart did not already need to compete with Amazon on the digital front, more recently it seemed like Walmart would need to compete on the physical front as well where Amazon started to test out AI-powered grocery stores, where customers could walk in, grab what they want, and walk out without having to deal with cashiers.

Unsurprisingly, Walmart was not about to take that lying down and if you live in Levittown, New York, you might be able to check out Walmart’s answer to Amazon Go. The company has recently announced that they have opened their Intelligent Retail Lab (IRL) to the public where shoppers can try out shopping of the future.

Unlike Amazon Go whose selling point is not having to deal with cashiers and queues, Walmart’s IRL is about making lives easier for their employees by helping them restock empty shelves and deal with shopping carts, thus freeing up their employees to deal more directly with customers to enhance the shopping experience.

According to Mike Hanrahan, CEO of IRL, “We think it’s something our associates will be excited about. The technology has been built to improve associates’ jobs, to make their jobs more interesting, to help them alleviate some of the mundane tasks. AI can enhance their skillset in a very rapidly changing world.”

Sony’s PS5 Won’t Launch In The Next 12 Months

Just last week, Sony effectively confirmed that they are working on their next-gen PlayStation console in the PS5. If you thought that this meant that the console was close to launch, think again because according to Wall Street Journal reporter, Takashi Mochizuki, that will not happen anytime soon.

According to his tweet, he claims that Sony will not be making any next-gen PlayStation launches in the next 12 months. This means that at the earliest we can expect the PS5, it will be in late April or May 2020. This is more or less in line with what some analysts had previously predicted in which they suggested that the console might not launch until 2021 or even 2022.

So far Sony has confirmed that the upcoming console will have support for 8K graphics and will feature a custom GPU based on AMD’s Radeon Navi series along with support for ray-tracing. It won’t be all about the graphics though, as Sony had also suggested that there will be immersive 3D audio support, along with an SSD that will help speed up load times.

It sounds like it could be an expensive console, which Sony did not deny, but they also stated that the price that they end up on will be appealing to gamers. No word on when we might learn more about the PS5, but with E3 2019 taking place in the next couple of months, hopefully we will have more details then.

Google Has A Pretty Cool ‘Thanos’ Easter Egg That You Should Definitely Check Out

At the moment, Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame is the hottest topic being discussed, and it looks like Google is getting in on the fun as well. The company has introduced a fun little Easter Egg that you can check out on your computer or on your desktop. All you have to do is search for “thanos”

When you’ve search for “thanos”, click the glove icon and watch it spring into action where it will perform a snap animation, after which you will watch your entire search results start to fade to dust, much like what happened in Avengers: Infinity War. It is a pretty fun Easter Egg and worth checking out if you have a minute or two to spare.

In the meantime, Avengers: Endgame has been released in various parts of the world. Reviews of the movie have been largely positive and it looks like Marvel and Disney have yet another hit on their hands. Pre-sales of the movie were pretty crazy as some websites were struggling to keep up with the sales. It also appears that pirates were pretty quick on the draw as well because it was reported that pirated copies of the movie had already leaked online, albeit in pretty poor quality.

Ford Self-Braking Trolley applies driver assistance tech to shopping

While there are people who’d readily admit being addicted to shopping, few of those will probably look forward to doing groceries. It’s one of life’s necessary evils that has created a market for online groceries and deliveries. Not everyone can afford to escape regular trips to the supermarket, which parents with toddlers may look to with dread for fear of … Continue reading
