Lenovo Legion Gaming Laptops Get Components Upgrades

This week, Lenovo is introducing upgraded Legion Y740, Y540 and Y7000p system equipped with the most recent Intel CPUs and NVIDIA GPUs. In the gaming segment, PC makers are scrupulous with integrating the latest hardware to stay on the cutting-edge of this competitive but profitable market.

All three computers were initially introduced at CES 2019 and retain the same modern chassis that is both elegant and sturdy, a trend that Lenovo was leading on while most competitors were still on the “stealth-fighter” kind of design.

With the new upgrades, the Legion Y740 (15” and 17”) can now be ordered with a Core i7-Gen9 and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q (lower power) graphics processor. The new components would help users achieve the maximum 144FPS maximum framerate offered by the optional 144Hz display option powered by NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology.

All new laptops get Gen9 CPU options, but the difference mainly lies in the GPU upgrades: for example, the Legion Y7000p and Y7000 get the GeForce RTX 2060 option, but also has GeForce 1660 Ti and GeForce 1650 Ti GPUs available at lower prices.

The more affordable Lenovo Legion Y540 (15” and 17”) can also be equipped with the GeForce RTX 2060 and Intel Gen9 Core i7, making it an excellent performance/price solution for tighter budgets. However, you won’t have the 144Hz display or the high-end chassis.

This is a typical “better, faster, cheaper” update that is typical of the semiconductor life cycle. With peak performance and power efficiency (perf/Watt) typically on the upside, the new laptops might convince some buyers to pull the trigger now.
