Apple’s Next Health Effort Could Be Asthma Monitoring

Apple is very interested in health and it shows. The company has included all kinds of health-related features to its Apple Watch smartwatch as well as acquire several companies that make health products. In fact, it seems that Apple’s next health efforts could come in the form of asthma monitoring.

According to a report from CNBC, it seems that Apple has allegedly acquired a company called Tueo Health who specializes in creating tools that monitor asthma in children. However, what’s interesting is that this monitoring is done through a smartphone app as well as several commercially-available breathing sensors, making it more accessible than proprietary tech.

Apple has declined to comment on the report, although that is par for the course. Exactly how Apple plans on integrating this tech into future products remains to be seen. We have heard that Apple has pretty big plans for its Apple Watch, where one of the features that has been rumored for the past couple of years, is a non-invasive method of checking glucose levels, ideal for diabetics who need to ensure that their glucose levels aren’t too high.

That tech has yet to find its way into the Apple Watch, but it could be groundbreaking if it did. The Apple Watch has also been credited for saving many lives after it alerted wearers to potential heart problems.

New MacBook Pro Teardown Reveals Changes To The Butterfly Keyboard

The other day, Apple announced an update to its MacBook Pro lineup where they will feature new Intel processors, but in addition to that, it seems that Apple has also announced that they have improved on the butterfly keyboard mechanism that has plagued so many MacBook owners ever since its introduction.

Apple was not specific with what kind of changes were made, but thanks to the folks at iFixit, they managed to get their hands on the latest 15-inch MacBook Pro model and did a teardown where they found some of the changes that Apple made to the keyboard of the laptop. According to their findings, there are several changes that have been made.

One of those changes is to the cover material of the keyboard, where the new version is clear and smooth to the touch, versus the previous iteration which was opaque. It is not just for aesthetics because by using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, iFixit has confirmed that they are different materials.

The teardown of the keyboard has also led to speculation that the dome switch could have been changed, where maybe it has been made sturdier so as to prevent it from cracking or deforming, which could have been one of the reasons why some MacBook Pro users were experiencing erratic typing.

As iFixit points out, all these changes still do not answer the question of what exactly were the problems before that led to all these keyboard issues. Will these changes be enough to solve Apple’s keyboard woes? We suppose we’ll have to wait and find out. In the meantime, Apple will be offering free keyboard repairs to all MacBooks that use the butterfly keyboard switches.

16-inch MacBook Pro With Edge-To-Edge OLED Display In The Works

Apple’s MacBook laptops have for years been using LCDs for its screen of choice. However, Apple could be making a huge shift in display tech for its laptops because in a report from Korean publication, The Elec, they claim that Apple has a new MacBook Pro laptop in the works that could use an OLED display.

The report claims that this laptop will feature a 16-inch edge-to-edge OLED display and if you’re wondering why this sounds familiar, it is because earlier this year, notable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also claimed that a 16-inch MacBook Pro could be in the works for 2019. However, at that time, the report did not mention anything about an OLED screen, so this is a new development.

Apple has recently made the shift to OLED for its iPhones with the iPhone X back in 2017. The company is expected to move forwards with 100% OLED iPhones in the future. Apple’s MacBooks also use OLED, but only in the Touch Bar portion of the laptop. If this report pans out, this could be Apple’s first OLED laptop.

It has also been reported that Samsung could be the one to supply Apple with said displays, which isn’t surprising as Samsung is one of the biggest suppliers of OLED display panels at the moment.
