LG’s UltraFine Displays Pops Up On Apple’s Online Store Again

According to reports from April and May, it was reported that Apple had pulled the LG UltraFine monitors from their stores. It started with the 4K monitor and then the 5K model. It was speculated that Apple could be done with LG’s UltraFine displays as they prepare to launch their rumored 32-inch 6K display.

However, it seems that we might have jumped the gun. According to reports, Apple’s online stores have started to sell the UltraFine monitors again, but there is a catch. The model being sold is neither the 4K or 5K model that Apple had pulled from its website. Instead, this will be a new 23.7-inch 4K display which also bears the UltraFine branding.

We’re not sure why Apple replaced the older models with this one, but perhaps LG had stopped the production of the other two displays. As for the specs, this new model will sport a resolution of 3840×2160 which is actually lower than the previous 4K model which had a resolution of 4096×2304, although its display size is a tad bigger.

Other than that, the design is similar and there will be 2x Thunderbolt 3 ports, 3x USB-C ports, and built-in stereo speakers. The new display is priced at $700 and is available for purchase via Apple’s website.

Washington Is The First US State To Make Human Composting Legal

Nature can sometimes be scary in times of natural disasters, but it is also wondrous and amazing, like when organic waste can be broken down and used as fertilizer for other things. For example, used tea bags and coffee grounds are used quite frequently when it comes to home-made composts.

Now over in the state of Washington, it seems that it has become legal for people, who upon their passing, to become human composts. Those living in the state of Washington will be able to choose to have their bodies turned into soil, kind of like how people can choose to have their bodies donated to science or have their organs donated to those in need.

This will solve quite a few problems, such as the issue of space where opting to have your remains turned into soil means that your remains can be reused in a more productive manner and will not take up space like regular burials. It is also more practical than cremation where the remains are either kept in storage or just tossed away.

According to Katrina Spade, the founder of a company that can provide such services and who also lobbied for the law to be introduced, she told Agence France-Presse, “Recomposition offers an alternative to embalming and burial or cremation that is natural, safe, sustainable, and will result in significant savings in carbon emissions and land usage.”

Granted, it might not be as sentimental and maybe feel a little squeamish, but it actually makes sense. The state of Washington isn’t the first to legalize this process. Other countries such as Sweden and the UK had already made it legal for human composting.

Valve Brings Its Steam Chat App To Mobile Devices

It goes without saying that Steam is one of the more widely-used game distribution platforms at the moment, and as such, there are many users who rely on its service to not only play games, but to keep in touch with their friends as well. For those who want to stay in touch with their Steam friends on the go, you’re in luck.

Valve has announced that the Steam Chat app is now available on iOS and Android devices. For those who are unfamiliar, the Steam Chat app was launched last year where it was initially only available on the desktop. However, it looks like the app will now be accessible on mobile devices as well, so you can keep in touch with your friends on Steam.

According to Valve, “We’re already working on improvements to the Steam Chat app, including voice chat. With Steam Chat moving to its own dedicated app, the original Steam Mobile app will see significant upgrades focused on account security. Our plans include better Steam Guard options to help securely log into your Steam account, such as QR codes and one-touch login, and improved app navigation.”

The app is a free download and can be found on the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store. It will be interesting to see how the Steam Chat app fares, especially when there are more popular platforms such as Discord.

Google Will Be Adjusting How YouTube Subscriber Count Is Displayed

In this day and age of social media, many of us have become obsessed with the number of likes a post gets, the number of subscribers we have, and so on. We’re not sure if this obsession is healthy, and as such, companies such as Instagram have tested out some ways to manage it, such as hiding the “Like” counter.

Now it looks like Google could be doing something similar with YouTube. The company has announced that they will be making some changes to how YouTube displays it subscriber count, where those who have over 1,000 subscribers will now see rounded figures instead of exact numbers.

According to Google, “So what exactly will this look like? For channels with fewer than 1,000 subscribers, the exact (non-abbreviated) subscriber count will still be shown. Once your channel passes the 1000 subscriber milestone, we will begin to abbreviate your public subscriber numbers on a sliding scale.”

Google claims that this is done to create “consistency”. They also state that these changes will not be coming into effect immediately and that it will only arrive in August 2019. We’re not sure how big of an impact this will have on creators, but we imagine that some might not be too thrilled with the ambiguity and would rather have specific figures.
