Drones Can Now Dodge Balls

If you aren’t afraid of drone attacks on humans in the near future, you should be. And if your plan was to simply knock them out of the sky, well, forget that. Drones can now dodge balls that are thrown at them. So, they will probably be very good at dodgeball – and also can not be taken out of the sky as they attack you. Depressing I know.

University of Zurich’s Robotics and Perception Group recently showed off an autonomous quadcopter that uses motion sensors to dodge balls that are thrown at it. The drone uses special motion-detection sensors which can identify pixel-by-pixel changes in a scene in microseconds. A regular camera takes milliseconds to do the same thing because those typically compare entire frames. The result of using the motion sensor is that this drone is incredibly fast at dodging objects.

The question now is: how are we going to get them out of the sky now? We need an EMP weapon I guess.

Sony Launches New XB900N Headphones To Compete With Beats

Sony’s XB or Extra Bass lineup of headphones has long been viewed as a competitor to Beats headphones. As the name suggests, they provide deeper bass with great sound quality. The company today unveiled a new pair of wireless headphones, the XB900N, to further compete with similar products from Beats.

The new XB900N have a style that’s not unlike Sony’s well-received WH-1000MX3 headphones. They even feature the same digital noise cancellation technology in addition to Bluetooth support for pairing with your devices.

Sony says that these new Extra Bass headphones offer tuning options for low frequencies and that they’re also capable of working with digital assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant. The headphones have a custom button which can be used to activate the voice assistant you use when paired to your smartphone.

The company is promoting the XB900N as a more affordable noise canceling headphone for customers who like more bass. It has done a good job of making it affordable compared to some of its competitors. The Bose QuietComfort 35 II, one of the best selling wireless headphones on the market, costs $350 and so do the Beats Studio 3 wireless. Sony is selling the XB900N for $250. That’s a really aggressive price point for a pair of headphones that do appear to get the basics right.
