Watch The ‘Game Of Thrones’ Theme Song Get An Epic Metal Cover

Next Monday will officially bring HBO’s Game of Thrones series to an end. There has been quite a bit of controversy regarding the last season and the direction that the show seems to be headed towards, but then again, this is Game of Thrones. Neither the show nor the books have really followed the typical tropes one expects from a fantasy series, which is kind of why it has gained as much popularity as it has.

That being said, what’s just as popular is the intro theme song to the show, which we imagine could have the staying power as Star Wars’ Imperial Death March. If you love the theme song, then you’ll definitely want to check out the video above put together by Fender. The guitar company has brought several famous guitarists together where they then proceed to give the theme song a metal cover.

These musicians include Tom Morello of Audioslave/Rage Against The Machine, Scott Ian of Anthrax, Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme, Brad Paisley, along with the Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi, and also none other than one of the show’s creators, Dan Weiss. The end result is rather epic, with each musician adding a bit of their signature sound to the song.

The video also showcases new Sigil Collection Guitars that is part of Fender’s Custom Shop, where there are guitars that have been designed around each of the main houses in the Game of Thrones story.

If you have a few minutes to spare, then this is a cover you should most definitely check out.

Google’s Translatotron Takes Translations To The Next Level

Google’s translation feature works pretty well and is a decent way of translating text and speech. However, what’s typically lost in the process of a translation is the way that the words were originally spoken, and since a lot of inference is made based on the speed of someone talks and the tone, this can sometimes lead to confusion.

However, Google thinks that they might be able to solve these problems with a new translation model called Translatotron. What it does is that it attempts to take the tone and cadence of the person talking and apply that to the translation as well, which hopefully will result in slightly more natural-sounding speech.

According to Google, “By incorporating a speaker encoder network, Translatotron is also able to retain the original speaker’s vocal characteristics in the translated speech, which makes the translated speech sound more natural and less jarring.” That being said, from the audio samples shared on Google’s blog, it is still very much obvious that it is a computer speaking back to you.

This is versus some of Google’s other AI efforts such as Duplex which has fooled many into thinking that they were talking to an actual human being. However, Translatotron is still very much in the works so we imagine that it should improve over time, but for now it does seem promising.

The Last Of Us Part 2 Could Be Entering Finals Stages Of Development

As many gamers are probably aware by now, Naughty Dog is currently in the process of developing The Last of Us Part 2, the follow up to the original game which was a smashing success. As to when the game will be ready remains to be seen, but it seems that the game could be entering the final stages of development.

This is according to a tweet by the game’s co-director Anthony Newman who wrote, “Lot of awesome positions open to help us close out this game… I especially want to highlight the Melee Animator position, I guarantee you will be working on some *dope* animations working with my good friend @Leethul 🗡️💀”

This seems to suggest that development on the game could be nearing the final stages, which in turn means that we can expect to learn more about a potential release date soon. We have heard a couple of different rumors for the game’s release date, such as either being in September or maybe even in October.

It’s probably best not to get your hopes up just yet because as with all development, there can be instances in which a bug is discovered in the last minute and needs to be fixed, leading to potential delays, so don’t hold your breath just yet.
