The drugmaker said the settlement “does not establish any wrongdoing on the part of the company.”
When the Sonic the Hedgehog movie’s poster was first revealed, many expressed disappointment with how the character looked, especially since it looked nothing like what many gamers were familiar with. This was made worse when the trailer was released, confirming that the look was indeed real.
This resulted in a pouring outcry from fans who demanded a change in its design, where the movie’s director Jeff Fowler acknowledged and agreed. Unfortunately, it seems that if you were hoping to see the movie anytime soon, you might be disappointed to learn that the movie has since been delayed to 2020.
The movie, which was previously scheduled for a release in November, 2019, has since been delayed by a couple more months where it will now be released on the 14th of February, 2020. We suppose this is a bit disappointment for some, but at the same time, we’d rather the studios delay the movie to get things right rather than hastily release a movie that does badly.

With video game movies rarely doing well, we suppose it is in the studio’s best interest to make sure that they get it right and release a movie that fans will enjoy. There is no word on what the redesign could look like, but hopefully we’ll have more details in the coming months.

Hermeus To Develop Hypersonic Jet That Flies From New York To London In 90 Minutes
Posted in: Today's ChiliVisiting new countries can be fun, but what’s not so fun is the process of traveling. This is because unless you can afford to fly business or first class, or a private jet, chances are most of us will fly in economy and long journeys are basically hell. However, a company by the name of Hermeus is hoping to help cut your travel time significantly.
The company has recently received financial backing from seed funders and private investors which they will be using to develop a hypersonic jet. This jet, said to be capable of traveling five times the speed of sound, will be able to fly passengers from New York to London (and vice versa) in as little time as 90 minutes.
At the moment, it takes about 7 hours to fly from New York to London, which means that this new travel time will be about 5 times faster. According to AJ Piplica, Hermeus’ co-founder and CEO, “We’ve set out on a journey to revolutionize the global transportation infrastructure, bringing it from the equivalent of dial-up into the broadband era, by radically increasing the speed of travel over long distances.”
That being said, it might be a while before we see these planes become mainstream. Piplica told CNN that a passenger aircraft would probably take a decade to develop, so don’t expect to take a ride in them anytime soon.

The problem with online services is that your data is at the mercy of the company controlling the service. For the most part, many of us assume that there are safeguards in place to prevent access to our personal data, but unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. In a report from Motherboard, it has been found that some Snapchat employees had abused their position to spy on users.
The report, who cites former employees as their sources, claim that several Snapchat employees abused their access a few years ago. According to them, Snapchat has some internal tools that allow employees to access user information, such as their location, saved Snaps, and other personal information.
One of the tools, dubbed SnapLion, was developed so that Snap could access user information should there ever be a request from law enforcement. This makes sense as we’re sure that plenty of other companies have ways of accessing user information in such instances as well, but in this case, the report claims that some employees abused it.
In a statement provided to Motherboard, Snap said, “Protecting privacy is paramount at Snap. We keep very little user data, and we have robust policies and controls to limit internal access to the data we do have. Unauthorized access of any kind is a clear violation of the company’s standards of business conduct and, if detected, results in immediate termination.”

OnePlus seemed to have pulled out all the marketing stops when it launched the OnePlus 7 Pro last week, getting benchmarking sites to publish their reviews on day one. That set a high bar of expectation for the phone and, unfortunately, it seems to be coming up short of those expectations. The phone has been swamped with complaints, especially for … Continue reading
Text-to-speech conversion is becoming increasingly clever, but there’s a problem: it can still take plenty of training time and resources to produce natural-sounding output. Microsoft and Chinese researchers might have a more effective way. They’ve…
Smart speaker devices like the Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Apple’s HomePod are always listening for their wake word. This prevents them from being used all the time and it also affords customers some semblance of privacy, where it is presumed that these devices are not listening to them until their wake words are spoken.
However, it can feel a bit unnatural to keep repeating these wake words, which is why Amazon could be toying with the idea of creating an Alexa device in the future that will not require a wake word. This is according to a recently discovered patent which shows that Amazon is (or was) exploring such an idea.
The idea behind it is to help create a more natural conversation. For example, the user might ask for the weather, “What’s the weather like today, Alexa?” Upon hearing its name, Alexa will then attempt to backtrack and see if a possible command might have been given before its trigger word was spoken.
Naturally, there are privacy concerns associated with such a feature, but according to an Amazon spokesperson, they told Engadget, “The technology in this patent is not in use, and referring to the potential use of patents is highly speculative. Like many companies, we file a number of forward-looking patent applications that explore new scientific ideas that may not make it into customer-facing products. Patents take multiple years to receive and do not necessarily reflect current or near-future state of products and services.”

When it comes to a camera’s capabilities, there are many factors involved that helps create a high-quality image. For example, the lens of the camera needs to be good, the software used to process the image, and the sensors used by the camera as well. However, it seems that in the future, there is a chance that Sony’s camera sensors could get a boost with AI.
This is based on an overview of Sony’s semiconductor business where Sony talks about how they plan to integrate AI processor directly into its sensor hardware. According to the overview, these sensors seem to be more targeted towards mobile, automotives, and industrial purposes, but as Sony Alpha Rumors points out, there is a chance that this tech could trickle down to Sony’s cameras as well.
In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised either. This is because for the most part, DSLRs and mirrorless cameras haven’t really changed that much over the years. Sure, improvements have been made in terms of their capabilities, but they feel more like an evolution rather than a revolution. Plus, with the camera industry decreasing year-on-year, perhaps something revolutionary such as AI in the sensor could help with that.
Exactly what kind of use we might see for AI in our DSLR or mirrorless cameras remains to be seen, but we imagine that it could be used for more advanced facial recognition, better tracking, maybe even better low-light images, and so on. Whether or not this will happen is anyone’s guess, so don’t hold your breath anytime just yet.

Due to the ongoing trade war with China, the Office of the United States Trade Representative has published a list of goods categories that could be considered for new tariffs, which could be in amounts as high as 25%. These tariffs are expected to be applied to goods imported from China, which will cover “video game consoles and machines”.
Yup, that means that future console generations could be as much as 25% more expensive than we had previously thought. Whether or not companies like Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo will be willing to take a loss to prevent the prices of their consoles from being too expensive remains to be seen, but it has been pointed that for the most part, most consoles are sold at a loss.
This is because companies take a loss on hardware sales in order to lock customers into their ecosystem, and then they make their money from services like online subscriptions and also sale of games. It is expected that all the major console makers have a next-gen console in the works. Sony recently demoed the PS5, although it is not expected to arrive for the next 12 months.
It had also previously been rumored that the console might be more expensive than its predecessor at $499. Sony has yet to confirm its pricing, but the company did state that its price will be “appealing”.

Google has two major operating systems, and one experimental one still coming, and that doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon. Instead of the “one OS to rule them all” approach, Google is instead using a strategy that tries to seamlessly bridge the divide between Chrome OS and Android. The latest step in that regard seems to be a … Continue reading
