US Government Might Require 5G Equipment To Be Made Outside Of China

When it comes to production, many companies around the world, not just the US, turn to China. This is because China is known for their inexpensive production, which is why many companies outsource to them to help increase their profit margins and lower their costs. However, the US government could be considering some changes to that practice when it comes to 5G equipment.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the US government is said to be considering making it a requirement that 5G equipment be made outside of the US. This seems to be an escalation in the trade war between both countries, where not only has the US government banned the use of Huawei’s equipment, but they have also blacklisted the company from doing business with US companies.

Now it seems that whoever will supply US carriers with 5G equipment, even if they aren’t a Chinese company, it seems that their equipment can’t even be made in China. This is a huge deal because it would require existing companies to start building production facilities outside of China, which is not only costly, but it could take time as well.

According to Michael Wessel, who is a member of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, “While the primary national-security concerns center on Chinese-owned firms, the equipment produced by any firm operating in China is at greater risk for vulnerabilities because of access to personnel and facilities.”

Robot ‘Duck’ Could Help Farmers Keep Their Fields Clear Of Weeds

Weeds are the bane of every gardener and farmer’s existence. Over in Asia, rice farmers who have opted not to use pesticides to get rid of weeds instead rely on nature, or more specifically, ducks, to help them get rid of weeds. This is because ducks will tear up weeds, snack on insects, and even their manure will help fertilize their fields.

However, an engineer working at Japanese carmaker Nissan has decided to help shake things up by creating a robot “duck” that will make the entire process more efficient. How so, you ask? This is because this robot duck can be used to patrol the fields and with its rubber brushes at the base of its feet, it will help oxygenate the water by stirring it up which in turn will prevent weeds from taking root.

We’re not sure if there are plans to ever put this into production, but having robots replicate some of the steps and processes used in nature could help make the process more efficient, especially since robots do not get tired. It could also potentially solve some problems in Japan, such as its declining population and shortage on workers.

In any case, if you have a few minutes to spare, you can check out the robot duck in action in the video above.

Man Fends Of Burglar After Holding His iPhone Like A Gun

Our phones look nothing like guns, but perhaps in the dark and if held properly, it might pass off as a weapon, especially if the other person did not know better. This was something that a Miami Beach homeowner was counting on when a burglar tried to break into his vehicle, where he held his iPhone like a gun to fend the burglar off until the police arrived.

Speaking to WSVN, the homeowner said that his wife alerted him to how someone appeared to be breaking into his car, “There is somebody breaking into the car, and I said, ‘What?’ I immediately called 911, and while talking to the police, I came outside. I pointed the phone to him, and I said, ‘Lay down.’ I start screaming, ‘What are you doing there?’ And he tried to come towards me, and I said, ‘Stay there. Don’t come here.’”

It seemed that the ruse worked because in the dark and with his iPhone being black in color, it was enough to fool the burglar into thinking it was an actual weapon. According to the homeowner, “Face down, and I said, ‘Put your hands behind your back.’ He put his hands on his back, and I was talking to the police.”

When the police arrived and arrested the suspect, it turns out that this was not his first time. The police claim that the suspect was wanted by the police under an alias for attempted grand theft auto and resisting arrest without violence charges.
