Microsoft Edge Introduces Tracking Prevention In Upcoming Update

In case you did not know, there are many websites that track you. This is mainly for advertising purposes where these ads can track users across multiple websites to better discern your browsing and shopping habits. Naturally, some people aren’t too comfortable with that which is why some companies have built in anti-tracking features, such as Apple did with Safari.

Now it looks like Microsoft wants to do the same with its Edge browser and have announced that in an upcoming update, they will be introducing tracking prevention tools. According to Microsoft, “When blocking a tracker, we aim to stop it from accessing previously stored tracking information and storing new tracking information. When tracking resources don’t add meaningful functionality to the page, we may even block them entirely.”

For those who are part of the Insider program and have access to the Microsoft Edge Insider preview build, it seems that if you have the latest version, you should be able to check out this new feature. All you need to do is type in “edge://flags#edge-tracking-prevention” into the address bar and enable it in the settings.

While this is a feature that will no doubt benefit end users, advertisers are probably not too thrilled by it where previously we had seen and heard some complaints when Safari’s anti-tracking feature was implemented.

2016’s Viral ‘Mannequin Challenge’ Videos Are Being Used To Train Google’s AI

You might recall a couple of years ago when the “mannequin challenge” was making its rounds on social media. For those who are unfamiliar, it is where a group of people in a room hold weird/funny poses while the person with the camera walks around, making it seem like everyone is a mannequin in a store.

While those challenge videos were fun, it seems that they are now being used to help train AI. That’s what Google is doing where according to reports, Google is using all those mannequin challenge videos to help train its AI to better predict depth. This is because unlike human perception, AI still isn’t quite there yet in terms of being able to figure out depth perception during motion.

So by using these mannequin challenge videos, which shows people staying still (as much as possible) while the camera pans around, it’s actually the perfect data that could help train an AI’s depth perception in motion. While it seems that the AI isn’t used for nefarious purposes, the fact that they are used without the people in the videos being notified has raised some privacy concerns, although whether or not you can do anything about it is unclear.

However, it does make you want to think twice the next time you decide to publicly take part in these challenge videos in the future.
