Verizon Launches 5G In Denver Today, Providence Gets It On July 1st

Verizon has promised to launch its mobile 5G service in more than 30 cities across the United States this year. To that end, it has announced that the 5G Ultra Wideband service has gone live in Denver today. It’s also going to flip the switch on the network for Providence come July 1st. As you’d expect, 5G coverage will be available in select areas of the cities initially.

Verizon’s 5G service in Denver will initially be concentrated in the areas of Highlands, South of 37th between Tejon and Navajo Streets with coverage also being found throughout LoDo and around Coors Field. The service will be available around popular landmarks such as Sculpture Park, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Areas of Capitol Hill, and in the central business district.

Coverage in Providence will initially be limited to parts of College Hill, Federal Hill, Mt. Hope, and around landmarks such as Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design and Providence College.

The carrier says that customers should expect typical download speeds of 450 Mbps on the network with peak speeds of over 1.5 Gbps with a latency of less than 30 milliseconds. Verizon will continue to expand coverage in these areas so that more customers can take advantage of its next-generation mobile network.

PUBG Universe Is Getting A ‘Narrative Experience’

You wouldn’t think that a game like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds would be hurting for a story mode. The game has seen its popularity skyrocket without one but the game’s creators want to try something out nevertheless. It has been revealed by the company behind this popular battle royale game that a “narrative experience” is being developed for the PUBG universe.

The confirmation came in an announcement which also revealed that Sledgehammer Games co-founder Glen Schofield is going to run a new studio called Striking Distance. PUBG Corporation has revealed that this new division is going to work on an “original narrative experience” that will be set inside the PUBG universe.

The details are slim at this point in time so it’s unclear whether this is going to result in a full-fledged story mode for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or if this is going to be something else entirely. Schofield does have ample experience of working on narrative-based projects, having led the work on multiple Call of Duty games.

It’s going to be an uphill task for the developer to divert players’ attention away from battle royale to the narrative-driven experience. Some Fortnite players may not be aware that its story mode, Save the World, actually preceded the battle royale mode. Save the World only represents a tiny fraction of Fortnite’s player base now. Could the same thing happen to PUBG as well? Only time will tell.

Google Maps Suggests Detour, Leaves 100 Drivers Stuck In Empty Field

Google Maps works very well nine times out of ten. It can tell you how much time it will take to get from your point of origin to your destination, which route you should take to get there, and what the traffic is like on the way. Rare as they may be, it can make a mistake, as almost 100 drivers in Colorado found out when they took a detour suggested by Google Maps.

There was a crash on Peña Boulevard leading to Denver International Airport over the weekend. This prompted the app to suggest a detour to users who were to otherwise go through that route. The suggestion was meant to get them out of a traffic jam quickly.

The alternate route which was suggested took drivers down a dirt road which had become a muddy mess after the rain. That’s not something Maps would have taken into account and as soon as the cars went there, they started sliding around in the mud.

Some vehicles couldn’t even make it through and this caused a traffic jam as others who were following the same suggestion lined up behind them. They took Google Maps’ advice to get out of a traffic jam only to find themselves stuck in an even bigger one.

Google said in a statement that the alternative route was suggested because the road wasn’t marked as private. “While we always work to provide the best directions, issues can arise due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather. We encourage all drivers to follow local laws, stay attentive, and use their best judgment while driving,” said a spokesperson for the company.

Pentagon’s Laser Can Identify People From Far Away By Just Their Heartbeat

Much like how our fingerprints are different from each other, so are our cardiac signatures. They can be used to identify individuals and Pentagon has developed something which can even do that from a distance. A new device has been developed for the Pentagon which can identify people based on their cardiac signature.

The device detects a person’s unique cardiac signature using an infrared laser. It can work at 200 meters currently but it would be possible to use it over longer distances with a better laser. Jetson, which is what this device is called, users laser vibrometry to detect the surface movement that a heartbeat causes.

It can pick up the cardiac signature through normal clothing such as a shirt and jacket but won’t work with thicker clothing such as a winter coat. A special gimbal has been added to Jetson so that the invisible laser spot, which is about the size of a quarter, can be kept steady on a target.

A return usually takes about 30 seconds so the device is only effective when the target is standing or sitting, at least for now. Steward Remaly of Pentagon’s Combatting Terrorism Technical Support Office says that under good conditions, Jetson has an accuracy of 95 percent.

PlayStation Plus Games For July 2019 Revealed

Sony offers a handful of games for free every month to members of its PlayStation Plus program. July 2019 is going to be no different. Sony has now confirmed the free games lineup for the coming month. The focus is going to be on sports titles in July so those who’re into sports will particularly like the lineup.

PES Productions’ Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 is the first title on the Sony PS Plus free games list for July 2019. It’s the only true competitor to the FIFA franchise from Electronic Arts. However, it doesn’t have some of the top-level clubs and leagues largely because EA has deeper pockets to pay for those expensive licenses that guarantee exclusivity to its franchise. PES fans do appreciate the franchise for its solid gameplay.

Horizon Chase Turbo is the second free title on the list. It provides a blast of ’90s nostalgia which draws inspiration from the likes of Out Run and Top Gear. It captures the essence of the 16-bit era with modern visuals, a great soundtrack, and classic split-screen multiplayer.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download both Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 and Horizon Chase Turbo from the PlayStation Store for free starting July 2nd through August 5th.

Traeger Pro 780 Review: Why your next pellet grill needs WiFi

Being a pit-master is a serious business, sweating over a smoker, tending its coals, and coaxing delicious flavors from hunks of meat after hours of careful cooking. It almost makes the Traeger Pro 780 feel a little blasphemous, in fact: the combination of picking from a range of tested recipes, dialing in a temperature, and then tracking it all from … Continue reading
