Nintendo Unveils Disney-Themed Nintendo Switch Console

If you’re thinking about getting your hands on the Nintendo Switch console, you might be interested to learn that the company has recently taken the wraps off what appears to be a Disney-themed Switch console, where one of the cute and defining points of the console are the tiny set of Mickey ears placed around the start button.

As expected given that this is a Disney themed console, there will be a Disney game bundled with it. In this case, it will come with the Disney Tsum Tsum Festival game and its DLC, along with the console in which the dock and the Joy-Cons have been given a Disney makeover. We should point out that this particular version of the Switch is the model that was recently announced with a larger battery, so you don’t have to worry about buying the first-gen Switch.

The console was announced in Japan where it will be priced at 36,080 yen. There is no word on whether or not we’ll be seeing it find its way stateside, but for now it does seem to be an exclusive to Japan. This means that if you want it, you’ll have to get someone to bring it back for you, although the upside is that the Switch is region-free, so there should be no issues using it in your country outside of Japan.

Nintendo’s Free Joy-Con Repairs Might Not Be Applicable To All Regions

Recently there have been reports of the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Cons experiencing a “drifting” problem, where the controllers are starting to become unreliable and moving by themselves when playing games, even if there is no input from the player. However, it was also reported that according to an internal memo, Nintendo will be repairing the controllers for free, even if it is out of warranty.

They would also be refunding gamers who sent their controllers in for repair and paid the repair costs. However, it seems that this might not be applicable to all regions around the world. According to UK website Metro, it seems that this repair policy might not be applicable to the UK. This was further confirmed by a post on Reddit in which a user tried to ask about the free repairs, only to be told that it seems that it might only be for gamers in the US.

According to the post, “Unfortunately not… A statement was released by Nintendo of America acknowledging known issues with Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers. Our Nintendo UK process remains the same – to provide recommended troubleshooting.” However, other users in other parts of the world, such as the Netherlands, have reported that Nintendo will repair the Joy-Cons for free and will waive shipping costs.

This means that depending on where you live, you may or may not have to pay for repairs, so maybe it’s a good idea to reach out to your local Nintendo and see where they stand on these repairs.
