Netflix did confirm recently that it would be launching mobile-only streaming plans in select markets. India was to be one of the first markets where this plan was going to be launched. Netflix is now offering users in the country a $3 plan which allows them to stream content from the service on their mobile devices only. The plan costs the equivalent of $3 per month.
Netflix users in India are still able to get the existing Basic, Standard, and Premium plans as before. The new Mobile plan offers streaming in SD resolution to one smartphone or tablet at a time for the equivalent of $3 per month. It will also allow Smart Downloads so that users have more flexibility when it comes to watching their favorite content.
“Our members in India watch more on their mobiles than members anywhere else in the world- and they love to download our shows and films,” said Ajay Arora, Director, Product Innovation, Netflix.
The company highlighted a report which mentions that Indians spend 30 percent of their phone time and more than 70 percent of their mobile data on entertainment. With Netflix heavily investing in original content for the Indian market, it makes sense that it wants to lower the barrier of entry for those interesting in paying for Netflix.

The Cambridge Analytica data misuse scandal has ended up costing Facebook $5 billion. The Federal Trade Commission formally announced a $5 billion settlement with Facebook today, ending the years-long investigation into the scandal and other privacy issues. This is the second largest fine ever imposed by the FTC.
According to the agreement filed by the FTC, Facebook violated the law as it failed to protect user data from third parties, served ads by using phone numbers which had been provided for securing accounts, and lying to users about its facial recognition software being disabled by default.
“This approach dramatically increases the likelihood that Facebook will be compliant with the Order; if there are any deviations, they likely will be detected and remedied quickly,” wrote the three supporting FCC commissioners in a statement.
Facebook will have to pay $5 billion in fines and also accept some new restrictions on its business. They include a mandated privacy review of every new product or service developed and also to obtain purpose and use certifications from third-party developers and apps that want to use Facebook’s user data.
Facebook added in a blog post that this settlement will mark a “sharper turn” towards privacy for the company which will be on a different scale than anything it has done in the past. Facebook has also agreed to pay $100 million to the Securities and Exchange Commission as it failed to disclose the breach to investors.

Fujifilm has started making surveillance cameras as well and its first product, the SX800, is a long-rgane surveillance camera that boasts 40x optical zoom. It’s, therefore, best suited for security options at international borders or large commercial facilities, for example.
The Fujifilm SX800 has an integrated lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 20mm to 800mm. There’s also an additional digital zoom of 1.25x. The company says that this combined provides the camera with a total focal length equivalent of 1000mm. That should be enough to focus on the license plate of a car from about 0.6 miles away.
That insane level of zoom is also backed up with additional technology so that the footage is actually usable. There’s fast autofocus which allows the camera to focus on the subject in as little as 0.3 seconds. There’s also optical image stabilization in addition to an image processing engine which can reduce fog and heat haze effects. The camera has support for ISO levels of up to 819200 so it’s got night filming covered as well.
Fujifilm has not confirmed the price as yet for its first surveillance camera. It has confirmed, though, that the product will be available for purchase from July 26th.
