Apple Fixes GPS Bug On Old iOS Devices Through An Update

Apple is rolling out a new update for older iPhones and iPads to fix a GPS bug. The update is meant for customers using an iOS device that was launched in 2012 or earlier. Those users should check for an update on their device since Apple is now rolling out a new software update for them.

These older iPhones and iPads are receiving the software update to address an issue that affects global GPS. It’s the Week Number Rollover issue which is due to GPS systems recording the passing of weeks as a 10 bit figure.

This would reset their counter automatically when they hit week 1,024 which is just about 20 years. When the count resets, some older hardware can go haywire which is why manufacturers have been rolling out patches for their devices. Apple is doing something similar by rolling out a new update for the iPhones and iPads that were launched in 2012 or earlier.

While the Week Number Rollover has been affecting other devices since April 6 this year, Apple says that its products won’t be affected until November 3rd. So there’s ample time until then and the company would certainly hope that this fix will be installed by all of the users with these devices.
