Sony Launches A7R Mark IV Mirrorless Camera With 61 MP Sensor

Sony has come out swinging at its rivals with the new A7R IV full-frame mirrorless camera which touts a 61 megapixel back-side illuminated sensor with 15 dynamic range stops. This camera thus delivers the highest resolution yet for a full-frame setup. It even lets users capture images of up to 240 megapixels with the pixel-shift mode while also delivering 26.2 megapixel photos in APS-C crop mode. The ISO range is fairly generous, going up from 100 to 32,000 or from 50 to 102,400 in expanded mode.

The camera body itself has been redesigned and now has a deeper, larger grip so Sony has certainly fixed one of the issues that users had with the A7R III. There’s a five axis image stabilizer which should be good for both video and still images. Sony has also put in a new 5.76 million dot OLED electronic viewfinder which is the highest resolution yet on a camera from the company.

The A7R IV is capable of capturing images at 10 fps in continuous AF tracking mode and can even manage up to 68 images in burst mode. 100 percent autofocus coverage is guaranteed by the 567 full-frame phase detection AF points and 425 contrast AF points. It can record 4K video at 30 fps and even supports real time Eye AF in movie mode, another first for Sony’s camera lineup.

The Sony A7R IV will be sent out to customers starting September. It will cost $3,500 which is $200 more than what the A7R III was launched for.

Nokia 2.2 Launched In The U.S. For $139

Nokia launched a new budget smartphone last month called the Nokia 2.2. It was aggressively priced so as to compete with the myriad of devices in this segment of the market. HMD Global, the company that’s making Nokia-branded smartphones now, has decided to offer the Nokia 2.2 in the United States for $139.

The Nokia 2.2 features a 5.7 inch 720p display with a quad-core MediaTek Helio A22 processor. There’s a 13 megapixel camera at the back and a 3,000mAh removable battery, a luxury that you don’t get with most smartphones these days. There’s even a dedicated Google Assistant button so that users can easily launch Google’s digital assistant at the press of a button.

There’s no fingerprint sensor on this device but it does have basic face unlock which relies on the 5 megapixel front camera. The Nokia 2.2 ships with Android 9 Pie out of the box and will receive the Android Q update when Google releases it to the public. The handset will receive major Android updates for two years and security updates for three.

Since it’s part of the Android One program, it’s a near vanilla Android OS experience without any bloatware or skins. The Nokia 2.2 is available with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage in Steel and Tungsten Black colors for $139 through Amazon. It will be available from select Best Buy stores from August 4th.

Dark Mode For Microsoft Outlook Reportedly In Development

Having a dark mode for your app is in vogue these days so it’s hardly surprising to hear that Microsoft is working on one for Outlook as well. Not only does a dark theme look really nice but it also helps reduce battery usage on devices with AMOLED displays. Microsoft previously said that it was working on a dark mode for OneNote and it’s now doing the same for Outlook.

Microsoft had actually confirmed last year that it would release a dark mode for Outlook on both iOS and Android but it didn’t say precisely when it would do that. It has been about a year since the company had first talked about a dark mode for Outlook and it seems like it may finally be about to arrive.

The folks at Windows Central have received which are said to be the official renders which show the dark mode for the Android version of Outlook. The show that the dark theme would be applied to the calendar, search, and obviously the mail screen as well. The app will retain blue accents throughout the UI to not lose touch with the Outlook brand.

Outlook users will be able to enable the dark mode through a quick access button in the hamburger menu or through a dedicated “Theme” area in the app settings. Android users will also have the option to turn on the dark mode automatically when the battery is low. Microsoft hasn’t said when it will start rolling out this feature to all users but it would most likely be opened up for Insiders first.
