iOS 13 Bug Allows Unauthenticated Access To Usernames And Passwords

While taking part in the beta program of a software is exciting, as you get to check out new features before they are released to the public. However, as we have pointed out many times in the past, beta software usually means bugs that have yet to be ironed out and instances where certain features don’t work as advertised.

Such is the case with the latest release of the beta for iOS 13 and iPadOS where according to publication iDeviceHelp, it seems that there is a bug in the software that will allow unauthenticated users to access usernames and passwords stored on the device. However, the “good news” is that this bug seems to be minor and that in order to access the passwords, the handset needs to be unlocked to begin with.

This means that chances of an outsider accessing it would be pretty slim, although it’s still a bug that definitely needs to be fixed. Apple has since been informed of the issue and they have yet to acknowledge it, but hopefully future beta builds of the software should address it. Both iOS 13 and iPadOS are expected to be launched this fall, so there is still time for Apple to get on it.

In the meantime, if you’d rather not deal with the issue, then perhaps it might not be a good idea to keep using the iOS 13 beta, at least until the problem has been dealt with.

WhatsApp And Telegram Security Flaw Allows Hackers To Manipulate Your Media Files

Both WhatsApp and Telegram tout themselves as secure messaging systems thanks to their use of end-to-end encryption. However, according to researchers from Symantec, they have discovered that there is a flaw in both their systems that allow hackers to potentially manipulate media files that have been sent and received through its platforms.

According to Software Engineer Alon Gat and Yair Amit, Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer, Modern OS Security, Symantec, “If the security flaw is exploited, a malicious attacker could misuse and manipulate sensitive information such as personal photos and videos, corporate documents, invoices, and voice memos.”

What this means is that in theory, hackers could potentially intercept media files sent and received, manipulate them, such as changing the bank account number on an invoice, and the recipient will never be the wiser. This can be achieved through an app that runs silently in the background without the user knowing about it.

In response to the report, a WhatsApp spokesperson told The Verge, “WhatsApp has looked closely at this issue and it’s similar to previous questions about mobile device storage impacting the app ecosystem. WhatsApp follows current best practices provided by operating systems for media storage and looks forward to providing updates in line with Android’s ongoing development.”

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Spotted Running Exynos 9825 Chipset

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will be launched next month and for the most part, it is largely assumed that it could come in two variants where one will be powered by a Qualcomm chipset, and the other will be powered by a Samsung Exynos chipset. Thanks to recent benchmarks, we have an idea of what to expect.

According to a recent sighting on Geekbench, it has been revealed that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 10 could be powered by the Exynos 9825 chipset. This is expected to be a slight upgrade over the Galaxy S10 which was launched earlier this year where one of the variants is powered by the Exynos 9820.

Exactly how big of a difference between the chipsets remains to be seen, so we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, it is unclear if the Qualcomm model will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 or the recently launched Snapdragon 855+. We wouldn’t be surprised if it were to be the latter, especially since ASUS has already announced that its upcoming ROG Phone 2 will be powered by it.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will be launched on the 7th of August at an event held by Samsung, so do check back with us then if you’d like more details.
