Steam’s New AI Tool Makes Game Recommendations Smarter

A lot of how recommendation systems work is based on things you’ve interacted with in the past. For example, if you’re browsing cameras on Amazon, chances are the next time you visit, you’ll start seeing recommendations for cameras or camera accessories. However, Valve is hoping to improve on its recommendation system by using AI.

Dubbed Steam Lab, these are experimental features that Valve is testing. Whether or not these features make its way into the main version of Steam remains to be seen and largely depends on user feedback, but some of them sound pretty interesting, such as the “Interactive Recommender”.

According to Valve, “This experiment looks at how much you’ve played each game in your Steam library, and uses the magic of machine learning to recommend games you might like. Filter your results by picking games that are popular or niche, and drill down by release date and tags.”

What makes this feature different from other recommendation systems is that it isn’t based on genre, but rather it is based on user patterns, so you might get recommendations once in a while that might be different from the games you usually play. If you’re interested in checking it out and the other Steam Lab features, head on over to its website for the details.

Apple Exploring The Idea Of Wirelessly Charging Electric Cars

At the moment, the way electric cars are charged is by plugging it into a charger, much like our phones, tablets, and so on. This isn’t really an issue, but the problem is that we imagine that over time as more electric cars populate the market, it means that these charging stations could get quite busy.

However, it seems that Apple might have an idea that could address that issue: wireless charging. In a recently-discovered patent, it seems that Apple has come up with an idea that will allow electric cars to charge wirelessly. This means that in theory, a bunch of electric cars could be parked in a location that offers wireless charging and be charged up at once.

It also means that it is possible that parking lots could come with the technology that lets electric cars charge while they park. There is no word on when Apple plans on rolling out this tech, if at all, especially since this is only a patent and is more of an idea rather than indication of an actual product that Apple is working on.

It sounds like a pretty promising idea, although previously we have seen other companies come up with their own charging solutions, such as Toyota who created a concept electric car that comes with solar panels on the roof.
