AT&T is taking a big step to remove the robocall headache for its subscribers. The carrier today announced that it will automatically start blocking robocalls for users and that they don’t need to opt-in for this. It says that automatic fraud call blocking and suspected spam call alerts will be added to consumer lines for no additional charge.
It also points out that new AT&T Mobility lines will come with this anti-robocall service as well while millions of existing AT&T customers will see it added to their accounts automatically over the next few months.
The carrier has been able to provide this service following a June ruling of the FCC which allowed mobile carriers in the country to offer an “opt out” robocall blocking service. This means that AT&T can provide their customers with this anti-robocall service until they decide to opt out.
So there’s no need for users to first download an app or tweak with their settings to opt in for the service. This will ensure that the maximum number of users are safeguarded by the anti-robocall service. Those who do want to opt out can do so using MyAT&T. The blocking service is also going to be added on lines that have already received suspected spam alerts.

Even though Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 3100 hasn’t been seen in a lot of devices so far, a new report claims that the company is already working on a more powerful processor for smartwatches. Wear 3100 was unveiled last year. It uses a 32 bit design with A7-based CPU cores and a 28nm node. The company had said that it was intentionally using the larger node for power saving since the chip could operate more efficiently in a low power state for a longer duration.
According to WinFuture, Qualcomm’s new chipset for Wear OS devices is going to have 64 bit support with Cortex A53 CPU cores on the 12nm node. It may either be called the Snapdragon Wear 429 or the Wear 2700, it’s claimed.
The upgrade should improve the performance significantly for Wear OS devices, at least that’s what the expectation is on paper. The report adds that the current testing platforms for this chip is coupled with 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB of eMMC storage.
There’s speculation that the new chip might just be a toned down version of the Snapdragon 429 mobile platform which has the same core designs and node size. It has been used for some mid-range Android smartphones and tablets recently.
Qualcomm hasn’t said anything on the matter as yet so take the information with a bit of salt until there’s more to go on.

Lord of the Rings fans will be interested to know that a new MMO or massively multiplayer online game is being developed based on this iconic franchise. Amazon Game Studios has confirmed that it’s developing a Lord of the Rings MMO in collaboration with Leyou. This will be a free to play title which will be available for both consoles and PC.
Leyou-owned Athlon Games had actually announced this title last year but it had said at that time that the work was underway with a “partner developer” which wasn’t name. It has only been revealed today that the partner developer for this MMO is Amazon Game Studios.
As per the earlier announcement, the Lord of the Rings MMO is going to be set at a time long before the events of The Lord of the Rings, exploring lands, people and creatures never seen before by fans of the Tolkien universe.” This sounds a lot like the new Lord of the Rings TV series that Amazon has been working on.
The series is also set a long time before the main series that fans of the franchise know and love. Amazon does point out that both the show and the game are being developed separately and that there’s no relation between the two. It hasn’t said when this MMO is expected to arrive.

The French government announced today that it plans to impose an “ecotax” on almost all air travel starting next year. The new tax is going to bring in around $200 million for the government which could be used for propping up modes of transportation with a lower carbon footprint such as trains.
“With the eco-contribution, air transport will play its part in financing the daily transport of all our citizens,” French transport minister Elisabeth Borne wrote on Twitter, adding that this is a response to the “ecological urgency and sense of injustice” that’s expressed by the French.
There will be some restrictions, though, with regards to the imposition of this tax. It will not apply to connecting flights or flights that land in France. It will apply to flights that originate in France. Furthermore, flights to Corsica and French overseas territories will be exempt from this tax as well.
Airlines would obviously pass on the cost to passengers. A domestic flight ticket would cost around 1.50 euro more after this tax is imposed but a business class flight heading out of the EU would cost around 18 euro more. France isn’t the only country that’s imposing a tax like this. Germany’s green tax adds anywhere from 8 to 45 euro to ticket prices while Sweden announced a similar tax last year.
