Hand dryers can be typically found in bathrooms and have been designed to help dry our hands after we go to the bathroom. They can be rather loud, but that’s because of all the air rushing out that helps with the drying process. However, it seems that hand dryers might actually be bad for kids.
This is according to 13-year-old Nora Keegan from Calgary, Canada who did some research on hand dryers, and found that these devices can actually harm the ears of young children. Speaking to NPR, Keegan said she was inspired to do some research into the matter after having some bad experiences herself.
“Sometimes after using hand dryers my ears would start ringing. I also noticed that children would not want to use hand dryers, and they’d be covering their ears.” To conduct her study, Keegan visited more than 40 public washrooms over the course of two years, where she used a professional decibel meter to measure the sound of hand dryers.
She found that the most damaging of these hand dryers came from Xlerator and the famous Dyson Airblade, the latter of which emitted sound levels of 121 decibels. As Keegan points out, given that Health Canada prevents the sale of children’s toys that can emit sound that is over 100 decibels, clearly a hand dryer that can emit even louder sounds can’t be good.
To their credit, Dyson has since confirmed that they would be sending an acoustics engineer to meet up with Keegan to discuss her research.

In a lot of places around the world, the toilet paper is the instinctive way we go about cleaning our bums and privates after we go to the bathroom. However, toilet paper is not only bad for the environment due to the fact that it is made of paper, but it is also not particularly hygienic compared to washing it with water.
However, installing a bidet system in your home can sometimes be a bit expensive, but the good news is that if you’re willing to spend $80, you might be interested in a portable bidet system called Sonny. Launched on Indiegogo, this is a bidet system that is small enough for you to bring with you on the go, so if you’re the kind of person who’s fussy about where they do their business, this should help somewhat.
According to its creators, Sonny will offer up three different types of sprays, depending on your personal preference and needs. It will feature an anti-bacterial coating and can be easily cleaned using soap or light detergent. It will also last for about 3 weeks on a single charge and can be easily refilled as long as you have a water source nearby.
The fact that it has also been stylishly designed helps as it doesn’t necessarily look like a bathroom product. We can’t speak to the effectiveness of the Sonny, but if you’re interested, $80 seems like a pretty decent investment to find out.

Apple’s New MacBook Pro And Air Models Are Eligible For Free Keyboard Repairs
Posted in: Today's ChiliYesterday, Apple announced a refresh to its laptop lineup where they updated both its MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops. These laptops will continue to use the same butterfly switch mechanism found in previous MacBook laptops, and as such, we imagine that there are some who are wary about buying them due to the numerous issues users have had with them.
The good news is that according to reports, Apple has told its repair staff that the new MacBook laptops will be eligible for the free repair program which was announced a couple of months ago. What this means is that if you ever encounter an issue that is keyboard related, even if your laptop’s warranty has expired, you’ll still be able to get a free keyboard repair.
Apple has over the years expanded on the eligibility of the keyboard repair program, where they have covered their newer laptops as they have been launched. For those unfamiliar, the butterfly mechanism is said to be more prone to breakage where they have been known to stop responding.
The company has attempted to address this problem over the past couple of generations, but hasn’t really had much success. So much so that according to a report last week, Apple is said to be ditching the design for good for its 2020 MacBook laptops.
