ASUS ROG Phone 2 Pre-Orders Are Off To A Great Start In China

The idea of gaming smartphones sounds a bit gimmicky, since for the most part they tend to share the same hardware as most flagship handsets. However, it appears that the recently launched ASUS ROG Phone 2 is quite a hit over in China where it has been reported that pre-orders for the handset are pretty impressive.

According to the reports, the ROG Phone 2 has managed to rack up 2 million pre-orders over in China once the handset was launched. This is pretty impressive and we should note that this is just China and it is only for pre-orders, meaning that once the phone goes live in other markets and when it is released, we imagine that it should do pretty well for itself.

That being said, it’s not that hard to see why the phone could be doing so well off the bat. This is because of its price, where the Tencent Games Edition is priced at just $510, far below the prices of what other handset makers are charging. Also, the fact that it is the first smartphone to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855+ chipset is also a bonus, where the overclocked speeds will no doubt help provide a boost in gaming.

No word on when we will expect to see the phone arrive stateside, but there are plans to expand its availability in September, but whether or not the US market is one of them remains to be seen.

Apple Patents A Way To Make The iPhone Even More Waterproof

In recent years, Apple has introduced water-resistance to its iPhones. However, it should be noted that Apple has never advertised its phones to be completely waterproof, just water-resistant up to a certain point. However, the company is looking at ways to improve on that, thanks to a recently-discovered patent.

In the patent, Apple talks about how physical buttons that depress could potentially act as another ingress point for water, and as such, they have designed what could potentially be a fix for that problem.

According to the patent’s description, “The engagement components may extend distally from the button, such that a portion of the engagement components may be positioned within apertures formed in the sidewall of the housing. The assembly may also include a plurality of supports, a tactile dome in contact with the button and at least one of the plurality of supports. A sensing component of the assembly may be positioned adjacent the housing and in alignment with the button and/or tactile dome for sensing actuation of the button within the assembly.”

That being said, there’s no telling if Apple has plans to eventually makes this patent a reality, but hopefully they do as iPhones with a greater degree of waterproofing sounds like a great idea.
