Online Login Requirement For Doom Re-Releases To Be Removed

Bethesda launched re-released versions of Doom, Doom II, and Doom 3 earlier this week. However, there was a strange requirement which made it obligatory for players to log into an online account before they could play the games. It wasn’t long before players started criticizing Bethesda for this decision. It has listened to their feedback and confirmed that this requirement will be removed.

Many called this requirement ridiculous because the first of these games was released over 25 years ago. There wasn’t an internet login requirement at that time so ideally, the game shouldn’t have one even though it has been re-released.

Bethesda has confirmed that it’s going to make the online login requirement optional in a new update. It added that this requirement was included for the Slayers Club in order to reward players for playing the classic Doom games.

They would have been able to unlock items for Doom Eternal, a game that’s yet to arrive. Bethesda has now said that the login “should be optional” and that it’s working on changing the requirement to optional now. It says that an update will be sent out to everybody once the fix is ready. Unfortunately, Bethesda hasn’t confirmed precisely when that might happen.

Your Tesla Will Soon Be Able To Stream Netflix And YouTube

You play quite a few games on the massive in-car display of your Tesla, obviously when it’s stationary, and soon you will be able to stream your favorite content from Netflix and YouTube as well. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said that Teslas will gain the ability to stream Netflix and YouTube in the near future.

Tesla has already brought quite a few games to the in-car displays found in its vehicles. Bethesda even announced at E3 earlier this year that Fallout Shelter would be supported for Tesla vehicles as well. Some classic Atari games have been released as well.

The games will only work when the car is parked and the steering wheel can be used as a controller. That limitation applies to Netflix and YouTube as well. Content can only be streamed when the car is parked.

Musk didn’t say when this functionality is going to arrive, though. He did talk about bringing YouTube streaming to the car at E3 this year. However, Musk does point out that once full self-driving is approved by regulators, the car will allow passengers to stream video when the Tesla is driving itself. This will no doubt be a welcome addition for those who often find themselves having a lot of time to kill in the car when it’s parked.

Dish Announces That It’s Entering The U.S. Mobile Market As A Major Carrier

The Justice Department had concerns about competition in the U.S. mobile market reducing if T-Mobile and Sprint were allowed to merge. It wanted to maintain the status quo of having four major wireless players. That’s where Dish came into the mix. It was reportedly in talks with a deal to acquire the merging carriers’ prepaid businesses. Dish has now confirmed that it will indeed be entering the country’s mobile market as a major player.

As a result of its agreement with the Justice Department, T-Mobile, and Sprint, once the merger is completed, Dish will acquire Sprint’s prepaid businesses and customers which include Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, and the Sprint-branded prepaid service. It will also acquire 14MHz of Sprint’s nationwide 800MHz spectrum and access the T-Mobile network for seven years.

The portion of spectrum it’s picking up from Sprint will be added to its own existing 600MHz and 700MHz low-band holdings. Since building out a mobile network takes time, Dish customers will initially be served on a combined T-Mobile and Sprint network. They will be able to move seamlessly between T-Mobile’s nationwide network and Dish’s “new independent 5G broadband network.”

As regards 5G, Dish has committed to the FCC that it will deploy a “facilities-based” 5G broadband network that’s capable of serving 70 percent of the country’s population by June 2023. If Dish fails to meet its 5G deployment deadlines, it will make voluntary contributions to the U.S. Treasury of up to $2.2 billion.

Boeing 737 Max Grounding Forces Southwest Airlines To Leave Newark Airport

Airlines in the United States, and indeed across the globe, have had to cancel thousands of flights as the Boeing 737 Max grounding left them with no other option. Additional issues were discovered with the aircraft and until they’re fixed and an all-clear is given, the beleaguered jet can’t take to the skies again. This has forced Southwest Airlines to leave Newark Airport.

Southwest happens to be the fifth largest airline to operate out of Newark airport. It has previously made the decision to cancel all Boeing 737 Max flights throughout the rest of this year. Since it’s not flying as many flights that it did before, and because revenues are falling due to the jet’s grounding, Southwest Airlines has decided to move its operations out of New York’s Newark Airport.

The New York Times reports that Southwest will now be consolidating its flights that will no longer depart from Newark into New York’s La Guardia Airport. It has already canceled all 737 Max flights until January 5th next year.

The airline has said that customers who were due to fly out of Newark will now be offered flights flying out of alternative airports. Around 125 employees that worked for the company at Newark will be offered jobs elsewhere. Southwest also says that it’s in preliminary discussions with Boeing about being compensated for the loss that it’s suffering because of the 737 Max.

Senate Committee Concludes Election Systems In All 50 States Were Targeted

There has been a lot of talk about foreign interference in the previous presidential election. A heavily redacted report has been released this week in which the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee has concluded that election systems in all 50 states were targeted by hackers that were believed to have links to the Russian government.

It was first said back in 2017 that 39 states had been targeted while the Department of Homeland Security had officially confirmed that election systems in 21 states had been targeted. A joint report from the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI released this April mentioned the possibility that the hackers may have tried to look for flaws in the election infrastructure of all 50 states.

A lot of questions still remain, though, because the report is so heavily redacted that it doesn’t reveal a lot of details. For example, it doesn’t make it clear how the Senate committee has reached this conclusion. It does point at some anonymous intelligence gathered in 2018 which was backed up by assumptions made earlier by the National National Security Council cyber coordinator Michael Daniel and the Department of Homeland Security.

“Russian cyber actors were in a position to delete or change voter data,” the report adds. However, the report doesn’t say if Russia did actually tamper with any of the voter data and there’s still no evidence that the hackers were able to access the actual voting machines.
