Hideo Kojima’s upcoming “cinematic adventure” game for PlayStation 4 is still quite a mystery, but this Death Stranding trailer that debuted at Comic-Con last week reveals more about it. Leaks of the video appeared online recently, but now you can wa…
The development of AI has advanced far enough where certain pieces of news can actually be written up by a computer without any input from humans. This can be dangerous because it also means that since computers don’t need sleep, it could be weaponized where it could be used to churn out fake news after fake news.
There is the saying of fighting fire with fire, which is what researchers at Harvard University and the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab have done, where they’ve developed a new AI tool that has the ability to spot text that might have been generated using another type of AI. Dubbed the Giant Language Model Test Room, this tool relies on the fact that AI typically generates text relying on statistical patterns.
Basically, the idea is that if a piece of text seems to be too predictable to have been written by a human, there is a chance that it could be written by a computer. The tool can be used to help detect things like fake text and misinformation, which could help fight against fake news and bots.
There are already websites and organizations that have dedicated themselves to fact-checking fake news and images, but hopefully with the use of AI, it will become a lot more efficient.

WhatsApp has evolved over the years from being an app exclusive to smartphones, to being made available on the desktop. However, if there is one platform that WhatsApp has yet to truly support, it would be tablets. This is largely due to WhatsApp requiring the user to have a phone number, something that tablets do not typically have.
However, according to a report from WABetaInfo, it seems that WhatsApp could be developing a version of its app for tablets such as Apple’s iPad. In addition to launching on the iPad, they have found some evidence that suggests that WhatsApp could be working on making their service truly multi-platform.
As it stands, WhatsApp can be used on the phone and on the PC, but the PC version does require users to have their phones nearby as it requires a wireless connection to your phone. However, this change means that users will be able to use WhatsApp on multiple devices at once without needing their phones to be nearby, turning it into a true multi-platform app similar to the likes of Messenger, Slack, Discord, and so on.
WABetaInfo claims that WhatsApp had been developing for the iPad for a while now, but they delayed it as they wanted to wait for a true multi-platform approach. There is no word on when these changes will roll out, but it does sound like great news if it’s true.

One of the useful features of smart speakers is its ability to be activated using our voice. This comes in handy when we need to do things but our hands are either full or dirty, like looking for recipes online, adjusting our thermostat, setting a reminder and so on. However, they can also be incredibly useful for those who can’t use their bodies.
Google seems to be aware of this and as such, the company has recently announced that together with the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, they will be giving away 100,000 Google Home Mini devices to people who are living with paralysis. The idea is that since these users can’t use their bodies the same we do to do certain tasks, having a device like the Home Mini that can be controlled with their voice can be incredibly useful.
In a post by Garrison Redd, a Team USA Paralympic powerlifter, he shared how helpful the device has been for him. “The first thing I did was connect Mini to my Nest Thermostat (the one that’s a tad too high). “Hey Google, turn down the thermostat” is especially useful these days in the summer heat. I’m training for the 2020 Paralympic Games as a powerlifter for Team USA, so I use my Mini to set alarms, manage my training schedule, and even make grocery lists. Music is a huge motivator for me, and with Mini, I listen to Spotify playlists and get pumped up before a workout.”
For those who are living with paralysis, you can head on over to the Reeve Foundation where you can check on your eligibility status.

Just like Samsung and Apple, Huawei makes its own chipsets. These Kirin chipsets can be found in quite a few Huawei handsets, although the company uses Qualcomm’s chipsets from time to time as well. However, moving forwards, the company is expected to use more of its Kirin chipsets in future devices.
This is according to a report from hardware suppliers to Huawei who are alleging that Huawei is looking to reduce their reliance on other chipset makers, such as Qualcomm and MediaTek. To give you some context, it has been estimated that in the second half of 2018, less than 40% of Huawei’s phones used the company’s own Kirin chipset.
However, that number rose to about 45% in the first half of 2019, but they are expected to boost production where about 60% of Huawei’s phones will be powered by the Kirin chipset in the second half of 2019. This is not a surprising move when you consider that Huawei has narrowly escaped its US ban.
During the ban, the company would have been prevented from doing business with US companies such as Qualcomm. By transitioning more of its devices to its own Kirin chipsets, this means that should the company ever find themselves in another similar position in the future, they will be better prepared.

Someone Parked Their Tesla On A Stranger’s Lawn And Stole Their Electricity
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe problem with electric cars is that they need to be recharged. If you’re not diligent about keeping it topped off, there is a good chance you could find yourself out of battery, and since chargers aren’t exactly widely available, it can be rather inconvenient. However, if you ever do find yourself in such a situation, maybe don’t do what this couple did.
According to a report from TV station WPBF, it seems that over in Florida, homeowner Phil Fraumeni woke up one day to find a Tesla parked on his lawn. Not only was it parked, but it was also tethered to his house where the owners of the car plugged their charger into his home to juice up their car.
To make it worse, the owners were nowhere in sight. Fraumeni exercised great patience where instead of yanking out the charger and calling a tow truck, he instead waited a few hours before ultimately calling the cops. The couple later returned for their car where they admitted that they had it parked there since midnight, where they claimed that they were visiting a friend and their car had run out of battery.
There was no apologies made or offer of compensation, and to Fraumeni’s credit, he did not press charges even though he was well within his right to do so. So, the next time you find yourself in a similar bind, perhaps knock on the door and ask for permission first.

As you might have heard, the US Department of Justice has recently approved the T-Mobile and Sprint merger. This is a huge deal as both carriers made up two of the four major carriers in the US. However, this merger does come with some strings attached. One of those is that the carriers will need to make a new competitor, and the second is the support of eSIM.
According to the US Department of Justice, “This requirement will make it easier for Dish to attract new subscribers, help extend the competition in this market, and will provide a platform for new innovative options.”
They add, “Sadly in the United States, eSIM has not been widely adopted in mobile wireless like it is in Europe and others. And that’s an area separate of this merger we have looked to. This will revolutionize the use eSIMs in hopefully all carriers, because once consumers have it, they’ll benefit from it.”
eSIMs have started to find their way into our smartphones, like the Pixel smartphones and Apple’s newer iPhones. One of the upsides to an eSIM is that it does not require a physical SIM, which means that in theory, swapping between carriers is only a few taps away in the settings menu. This does not mean that we expect the carriers to start supporting them right away, but it could be something to keep an eye out for.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will be officially launched on the 7th of August. If the handset intrigues you and you wouldn’t mind getting it as your next smartphone, then you might be interested to learn that Samsung has recently opened up the Note 10 for reservations, a few weeks ahead of its launch.
We should point out that this is only a reservation for the phone and not a pre-order. This means that there will be no payments made, but rather this is just a way for customers to express interest in the handset and maybe reserve it so that they can pre-order it when it does eventually come available.
However, there are some benefits to putting your name down. Samsung has offered customers a $50 discount if they were to put their name down by the 7th of August. They will also be offering up to $600 in trade-in value towards the Note 10, but this will largely depend on the phone you plan on trading in and also its condition.
There is no word on when the phone will be released, but typically we’ve seen Samsung launch it a few weeks after its announcement, so there’s a good chance it will most likely be arriving later in August, or at the latest, early September. Those who are interested can head on over to Samsung’s website to make their reservations.
