Starbucks Japan Launches A Special Pen That Lets You Pay For Coffee

When it comes to paying for your drinks at Starbucks, there are several ways that you can go about doing it besides using cash or your credit card. There is the Starbucks app and Apple Pay, for example. However, it seems that over in Japan, Starbucks has come up with a new and novel way of paying for your drinks through a specially-created pen.

As you can see, the pen doesn’t look particularly special, but it contains the same tech used by the Starbucks card so you can just tap it at any of the Starbucks IC card touchpads and it will register your payment. Essentially it has NFC built into it, but instead of a card, it comes in a pen form.

Apparently the design of the pen is special as well, where it is said to have been designed to look like a coffee machine. It was created in collaboration with Zebra, a stationary supplier, and instead of the usual blue or black ink, it will have brown ink to mimic the color of coffee, although this also means that you won’t be able to fill out official forms with this pen.

The pens themselves don’t come cheap and are priced at around $50, but this comes with 1,000 yen worth of credit which you can use towards your Starbucks purchases. If you’re interested, you can head on over to the Starbucks online store to get your hands on it.

These Are The Regions That Will Support The Pixel 4’s Motion Sense At Launch

Based on everything that we know about the Google Pixel 4, one of the upcoming features of the phone is called Motion Sense. This is based on Project Soli that Google has been working on for the past few years. While touchless gestures on smartphones aren’t new and have been attempted by other handset makers in the past, Motion Sense is expected to be a lot better and more accurate.

This is due to the use of 60GHz frequencies, and as such, it was previously reported that not all regions would support the feature at launch. That being said, thanks to the folks at XDA Developers, they have managed to uncover what could potentially be all the markets that Motion Sense will be available in at launch, which according to them should cover about 53 markets around the world. This includes:

  • Australia
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Canada
  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • French Guiana
  • French Indian Ocean Territories (both MCCs are listed)
  • French Polynesia
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Guadeloupe
  • Guam
  • Hungary
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Korea
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • Martinique
  • Netherlands
  • New Caledonia
  • Northern Mariana Islands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Puerto Rico
  • Romania
  • Saint Barthélemy
  • Saint Martin
  • Saint Pierre and Miquelon
  • Singapore
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Taiwan
  • United Arab Emirates
  • United Kingdom
  • United States of America
  • United States Virgin Islands
  • Wallis and Futuna

The reason, as we said, is largely due to the use of the 60GHz frequency in which Google needs to apply for approval with the relevant regulatory agencies before it can be used. This does not mean that Motion Sense will be limited to these regions forever. We imagine that over time they will become available to more locations once approval has been granted, but these are just the potential markets that will be getting it at launch.

Cuphead Sells 5 Million Copies, Celebrates With 20% Discount

There have been many indie games released over the past few years, but Cuphead has managed to capture the attention of many due to its old school graphics and gameplay, making it reminiscent of the side-scrollers that a lot of us grew up with, as well as cartoons from the 1980s with its graphics and music.

The game was initially released as an exclusive to Microsoft’s Xbox platform and Windows, but it later found its way to more devices and platforms, such as macOS, and the Nintendo Switch. It also found an unlikely home in Tesla vehicles where the game was playable through the car’s infotainment display.

The game has received many favorable reviews since, and in fact, according to a post on Facebook by Cuphead’s developer, the game has managed to go five-times platinum, meaning that at least 5 million copies of the game have been sold to date. To celebrate this amazing milestone, Studio MDHR have announced that for a full week, Cuphead will be discounted by 20% across the platforms it is available on.

This means that if you’ve always been meaning to give the game a try, now is a good time to check it out as it will save you a couple of dollars.
