Apple Patents An Apple Watch That Will Keep The Band Consistently Tight

Just like most watches, the Apple Watch’s band probably does not fit everyone perfectly. There might be some days it would feel loose, and other days it might feel a bit too tight. However, Apple thinks that they might have the solution to that problem by creating a band that will be “consistently tight”.

According to the patent’s description, “The watch band maintains a substantially constant tension throughout changes in its length while worn by a user. Such changes in length may occur automatically to accommodate changes in the size and circumference of a user’s wrist as they move their wrist normally. By maintaining a constant tension, the watch band also maintains a constant force on the user’s wrist, and causes a watch body attached to the watch band to also maintain a constant force on the user’s wrist.”

The description adds, “This can increase a user’s comfort, since the watch will not get tighter or constrict their wrist as they straighten and bend their wrist. It can also help optimize operation of any sensors in the watch band or watch body that benefit from being held against the user’s wrist with a constant force, such as some physiological sensors.”

It is unclear how exactly Apple will achieve this and what kind of materials they will be looking to use. However, it is not a guarantee that this patent will become a reality as Apple does file for patents regularly.

Apple’s Next Trick Is To Let iPhone Users ‘Feel’ Through Their Displays

The smartphone market is a mature one and as such, with every new smartphone release, manufacturers are finding it increasingly difficult to make them more amazing. Instead, we are looking mostly at improvements to existing features, like better quality cameras, smarter cameras, and so on.

That being said, in a recently discovered patent, it seems that Apple could have an idea for a groundbreaking display for the iPhone, in which it could potentially allow users to “feel” textures through the display itself. What this means is that if you were looking at an object on your screen, it could in theory mimic the feel of said object, like wood, metal, fur, and so on.

We’re not sure what kind of practical uses such a display could have, but it would definitely be very different. Apple has attempted to come up interesting display tech in the past, like they did with 3D Touch, a pressure-sensitive display. However, that did not exactly pan out, leading Apple to ultimately drop the feature from its 2019 iPhones.

We have heard that the company could also be looking to bring the iPad Pro’s ProMotion display tech to the 2020 iPhone, where it would introduce a 120Hz refresh rate, but that remains to be seen.

Apple TV Plus To Be Included In Apple Music’s Student Plan At $4.99 A Month

In a bid to help draw more users into subscribing to its Apple Music service, Apple had previously launched a student pricing plan for Apple Music. Priced at $4.99, this is essentially half of what regular customers would pay, making it a more affordable option for students who might want to sign up for it.

Now it looks like Apple is hoping to lock students in with their upcoming Apple TV Plus service, because as long as students are subscribed to Apple Music, they will be given a free subscription to Apple TV Plus as well. The details about this plan is scarce but as 9to5Mac speculates, there is a good chance that it will only cover single users and not be available for Family Sharing.

As it stands, Apple TV Plus is priced at $4.99 a month, so basically students will be getting a completely free subscription. We imagine that Apple is hoping that by giving students free access, eventually they will be hooked to the service and will continue to subscribe to it once they have left college or university.

Apple is being rather generous with its Apple TV Plus subscription right now, where they are giving customers who purchase a new iPhone, iPad, Mac, iPod Touch, or Apple TV a free year’s subscription. The company also recently gave away a bunch of iPhone 11s on The Ellen Show which automatically gives users a free subscription as well for the first year.

MacBooks With Redesigned Scissor Switch Keyboards Expected Mid 2020

While Apple’s MacBook Pros are undeniably powerful (expensive, but powerful), if there is one weak point in the laptop it would be with the keyboard. There have been multiple complaints about the keyboard, but if the rumors are to be believed, Apple could finally be addressing them in 2020.

In an updated research note by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he claims that Apple is expected to launch a new scissor switch keyboard for its MacBooks come mid 2020, where it could either launch in the later part of the second quarter, or early third quarter. This means that if you were thinking about getting a new MacBook, you might want to wait until then.

That being said, Kuo’s report has some implications behind it. There was no mention of the rumored 16-inch MacBook Pro which was said to be launching at the end of the month. This is because this particular laptop is said to be the first to sport the new scissor switch keyboard design, so if Kuo’s latest note says the switch will only launch mid 2020, it seems to imply that this laptop could be delayed as well.

Recently, some evidence has been found in the macOS Catalina beta to suggest that this laptop is indeed real, but Apple has yet to announce a launch event which suggests that it might be launched anytime soon. Take it with a grain of salt, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more info.
