Sony PlayStation Vue Will Be Shutting Down

The other day, it was reported that Sony could be considering looking for a buyer for its PlayStation Vue streaming service. It was suggested that the service was not doing as well as Sony had hoped, and that its subscriber count was well behind that of the competition. However, it looks like instead of being sold off, Sony has since decided to shut it down.

In an official announcement on its PlayStation Blog, Sony has announced the shutdown of its PlayStation Vue service. According to Sony, “Today we are announcing that we will shut down the PlayStation Vue service on January 30, 2020. Unfortunately, the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected. Because of this, we have decided to remain focused on our core gaming business.”

Sony has also pointed customers to its PlayStation Store and also individual third-party media apps if they still wanted to access TV shows on their PlayStation consoles. Sony did not make any mention of selling off its PlayStation Vue business, so for now, it would be safe to assume that after the 30th of January, 2020, the service would be gone for good.

As it stands, there are plenty of new entrants into the streaming industry, such as Apple an Disney, so it is a pretty competitive market to be in.

HBO’s Game Of Thrones Prequel Series Has Been Cancelled

Following the success of Game of Thrones, it wasn’t surprising that HBO would want to expand on it and milk the franchise even further. We had heard that there would be a Game of Thrones prequel series starring Naomi Watts, but unfortunately for fans, it seems that the series has since been cancelled.

This is according to a report from Deadline in which while it has yet to be made official, they report that the series’ showrunner and writer, Jane Goldman, had been emailing the cast and crew of the project to let them know that it had been cancelled. It is unclear as to what might have led to the cancellation given how much interest there has been for Game of Thrones.

However, there have been reports about issues arising during the filming process, and how the pilot was apparently not that well-received and had to be re-edited. As Deadline points out, this is not entirely unheard of as the pilot of the original Game of Thrones was said to be quite a mess as well.

It is possible that maybe this was simply more than what HBO was willing to spend which ultimately led them to cancel the series, but either way, it looks like fans will have to hope that George R.R. Martin will come up with books related to the prequel as it seems that we won’t be able to watch it.

AirPods Pro Replacements Will Not Come Cheap

So yesterday Apple officially took the wraps off their new AirPods Pro earbuds. These are a higher-end version of the AirPods that featured improved audio quality and also features like active noise cancellation. It is also more expensive than the regular AirPods where it is priced at $250.

Unfortunately, it seems that replacing these earbuds should they get spoilt or if you lose them will be an expensive affair as well. According to Apple’s support page, it seems that if you were to lose or damage the AirPods Pro outside of the warranty, it would cost you $89 per earbud that needs replacing. This will be the same price as the wireless charging case that comes with the AirPods Pro.

However, if there was ever a reason to get AppleCare+, it would be now because Apple will only charge customers $29 for each incident if they have the extended warranty. To give you some context, the AirPods costs $69 to replace each bud out of warranty, so the Pro version will be $20 more expensive per earbud, totaling to $178 if you were to damage or lose the entire set.

We’re not sure if buying extended warranty for a set of earbuds is worth it, but if you think that you might be the kind of person to lose or damage these earbuds, then it might be worth looking into.
