EA Confirms That There Will Not Be A New Battlefield Game In 2020

Unlike Activision’s Call of Duty, EA’s Battlefield series isn’t necessarily released on an annual basis. For example, Battlefield V was released back in 2018 and in 2019, there were no new titles announced. However, if you were hoping that EA might announce a new Battlefield title next year, prepare to be disappointed.

This is because during EA’s Q2 fiscal 2020 earnings call, the publisher has confirmed that they will not be releasing a new Battlefield game next year, and that if gamers were hoping for a new Battlefield title, they will have to wait until the fiscal year of 2022. This means that we are looking at a launch between April 2021 and March 2022, which is actually a rather long time away.

Instead, EA will be relying on Respawn’s Apex Legends to be the company’s primary shooter game, where they are also expected to expand on it. It was also recently revealed that Apex Legends has managed to rack up 70 million players to date, so it is clearly doing very well and it’s not surprising that EA will want to focus on it.

Also, given how closely competitive Call of Duty and Battlefield are, EA choosing to focus on another game would give them a greater chance, although it also means that they would be ceding market share to Activision’s Call of Duty.

Linksys Announces New Velop WiFi 6 Mesh Routers

Back in the day, if you wanted to extend the range of your WiFi from your router, you would need to buy range extenders. While range extenders are still very much around, a new and more popular alternative these days is to get yourself a mesh router. This is because unlike range extenders that can reduce the speed when it bounces, mesh routers will help maintain the signal strength.

There plenty of mesh router systems available in the market today, and Linksys’ Velop system is one of them. In fact, the company has recently taken the wraps off their latest offering which comes in the form of the Velop WiFi 6, which as its name implies, will support the latest WiFi 6 protocol.

Some of the features of the Linksys Velop WiFi 6 include the ability to provide enough bandwidth for as many as over 50 wireless devices and can cover homes up to 3,000 square feet. It also supports connectivity speeds of up to 5.3Gbps and is easy to setup, where all you need to do is plug it into your existing modem.

While devices that support WiFi 6 still aren’t quite as common yet, it might not necessarily be the worst idea to start futureproofing yourself, especially if you don’t buying new routers frequently. Unfortunately, the Linksys Velop WiFi 6 does not come cheap. The one-pack is priced at $399 while the two-pack will cost $700, making it one of the more pricier options around.

Adobe Shows Off Its AI-Powered Object Selection Tool For Photoshop

Earlier this month, Adobe announced that for the 2020 version of Photoshop, they would be introducing new AI-powered tools, one of which is a smart object selection tool that will make selecting irregular shaped objects easier, especially for beginners and novices who are new to Photoshop.

As it stands, irregular shaped objects can be selected in images using the lasso tool, but given that it can be tricky to try and get as clean a selection as possible, many beginners usually end up with very rough jobs. However, with this new tool, it will make it a cinch, especially for objects that might have fine or fuzzy edges, like animals or with hair on humans.

Now in a video uploaded to YouTube, Adobe is showing off the tool in action, where it relies on the company’s Sensei AI to power it. As you can see in the video above, the entire process seems to be very seamless and easy, and all users need to do is drag the selection box over what they want to select and it will automatically select the parts for them.

We imagine that this will vary from photo to photo so your mileage may vary, but if it truly works as advertised, then this will definitely be a feature worth keeping an eye out for.
