The Pixel 4 Originally Shot 4K At 60 FPS, But Google Removed It

pixel 4Recently it was revealed that the Google Pixel 4 smartphones would not be able to record 4K video at 60 fps. Instead, video recording at 4K would be capped at 30 fps, which we guess isn’t too bad, but 60 fps would have been preferable. Google claimed that this was due to the fact that 60 fps videos take up more storage, and that for the most part, most users tend to record at lower resolutions anyway.

Now according to a tweet by XDA Developer’s Mishaal Rahman, it has been discovered that Google had initially enabled 4K @ 60 fps video recording on the Pixel 4 smartphones, but later pulled it ahead of the phone’s release. It is possible that during testing, Google found that recording at such high resolution and faster frame rates resulted in a less than ideal experience in terms of storage, thus they decided to take the feature out.

It actually makes sense as we should point that for whatever reason, in this day and age, Google is still selling phones with 64GB of storage and a max of 128GB of storage. Maybe Google is trying to keep phone prices down by offering lower storage capacity, but it does put a damper on certain things, like higher resolution recording, which could easily end up eating a lot of that precious storage in the process.

Facebook AI Can Now ‘Hide’ You From Facial Recognition Systems

Facebook has come under fire in recent times over various privacy-related scandals, leading to some to call upon other users to delete their Facebook accounts. However, in a pretty strange twist, it seems that researchers at Facebook have managed to develop an AI system that is capable of “hiding” people from facial recognition systems.

Basically, this seems like some kind of reverse deepfake where it distorts the person’s face ever so slightly to the point where it can confuse facial recognition systems, but at the same time maintain enough of the original so that you, as a human, will definitely know who it is that you’re seeing.

For those unfamiliar, deepfake videos are where peoples faces are superimposed onto another person’s face using AI, where it can blend in seamlessly. This in turn has created some problems where deepfake videos could be used to spread false messages. However, with Facebook’s AI, it is possible to distort the faces in a way that it may no longer be useful.

According to Facebook, “Recent world events concerning the advances in, and abuse of face recognition technology invoke the need to understand methods that successfully deal with de-identification. Our contribution is the only one suitable for video, including live video, and presents quality that far surpasses the literature methods.” Unfortunately, Facebook has told VentureBeat that there are currently no plans to implement this tool into its products and services.

Apple’s AirPods Pro Could Come In A Multitude Of Colors

According to the rumors, Apple is set to launch what they will be calling the AirPods Pro at the end of the month. Now according to a report from the Economic Daily News, it has been revealed that the new AirPods could actually be launched in a multitude of color options for customers to choose from.

According to the report, it claims that the new AirPods Pro could come in as many as eight different color options. That is actually quite a lot, but given that Apple has started to embrace more color options in recent years, and with its Beats series of headphones being offered in a wide variety of colors, we suppose this makes sense.

However, it would be a first for the AirPods, which at the moment is currently only offered in white. Some of the new color options are also said to match the new iPhones, meaning that we could be looking at colors such as white, black, and a new Midnight Green finish. Take it with a grain of salt, but we are approaching the end of October so they should be announced soon.

In addition to the new colors, we have heard that the new AirPods will also come with active noise-cancelling and it could also be priced higher at $260.

iPhone 5 iOS 10.3.4 update necessary to continue working

But while that mostly applies to newer iPhones, iPads, and Macs, the story doesn’t always look good for older ones as users feel less inclined to risk breaking their phones in an update. Now, however, Apple is doing the … Continue reading
