RODE VideoMic NTG brings new NTG5 shotgun tech to an on-camera mic

Just last month, the audio experts over at RODE launched the NTG5, its most advanced shotgun mic to date. But while such large and powerful audio recording equipment always has a place in someone’s arsenal, some users may need something lighter and more compact but won’t skimp on quality in exchange. That’s where the new VideoMic NTG comes in, continuing … Continue reading

A Man Built A ‘Wheelchair’ For His Pet Goldfish

If you’ve ever reared a fish as a pet, you might have noticed that sometimes, your fish might have problems swimming where they can no longer maintain themselves upright and will start swimming on their sides. This is known as swim bladder disease and is actually pretty common amongst aquarium fish.

Most of the time, this can be fatal, but in the case of Henry Kim, a Korean fashion designer, he decided to do something about it by building a custom “wheelchair” for one of his pet goldfish suffering from it. According to vets, fish that are affected by swim bladder disease tend to die in a couple of months, but thanks to Kim’s selfless act, his goldfish is still alive after five months.

For those unfamiliar, the swim bladder is an organ in a fish that helps them to control their buoyancy. Swim bladder disease is when the organ is dysfunctional due to intestinal parasites or constipation, and in most cases can actually be cured by feeding the fish peas or having a doctor fix it by putting a stone inside the swim bladder.

We imagine that the latter is probably going to be a very expensive procedure, so Kim’s solution is actually rather ingenious. We’re not sure if Kim is actively trying to cure his pet goldfish of the ailment, but for now, it seems to be pretty happy swimming about using its “wheelchair”.

Parents In China Are Testing Their Babies’ DNA To See If They Might Be Prodigies

How does one tell if their child might grow up to be a prodigy? It’s hard to tell as for all we know, some of us might have talents that were never nurtured, but apparently over in China, parents are starting to test the DNA of their babies in hopes of discovering potential talents that could turn their children into prodigies.

The report from Bloomberg tells the story of how one father, Chris Jung, decided to test the saliva of his daughter at his company, Gene Discovery. Jung claims that he had initially hoped that she would end up in more “traditional” careers such as becoming a doctor or lawyer, but upon testing, he found that his daughter had the potential to excel in music, math, and sport, and as such, changed his opinion of how he envisioned her to grow up.

According to Jung, “Originally, I would like her to become a professional like a doctor or lawyer. But once I looked into the results, it talked about how her memory is so bad. I switched my expectations because if I would like her to become a professional, she needs to study a lot and remember a lot.”

That being said, it has been pointed out that by having a certain gene doesn’t necessarily guarantee your future, but that being said, we suppose it is understandable that as parents, they would only want the best for their kids, even if it means shelling out anywhere between a few hundred to thousands of dollars to peek into the future of their child.

Olympus CEO Says That The Company’s Camera Business Could Be Put Up For Sale

In the digital camera market, there are many players such as Sony, Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Fujifilm, and Panasonic, just to name a few. However, there are some brands that are definitely more popular and preferred than others, and as such, other brands are starting to suffer as their slice of the market pie is getting smaller.

One of those companies is Olympus, who you could credit for kicking off the mirrorless trend, which has since been dominated by the likes of Sony. Unfortunately for Olympus fans and users, it seems that the company’s camera business is doing as well as they’d like, leading to the company’s CEO Yasuo Takeuchi revealing that they might consider selling their camera business off.

According to the report, Takeuchi had previously said that the company’s camera business was not for sale, but in this new report from Bloomberg, the CEO backtracked on his previous statement admitting that it is now a possibility. Now, Olympus has yet to officially announce anything, so at the moment, it seems that it is business as usual.

However, Takeuchi’s statement certainly does not inspire confidence, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more updates about the company’s future. Also, should Olympus sell off their camera business, it does not mean that the brand will die, but maybe it will just be made by someone else, so it might not be as bad as we think.

Google Play Store needs more than AI to make app recommendations useful

Despite trying to paint an image of being a serious, enterprise-friendly corporation, Google is still pretty much the stereotypical geek among the tech giants. It just loves to solve its problems with machine learning and AI, which is understandable given the amount of data it has to wrestle with. But while there are things that can be efficiently solved with … Continue reading
