Galaxy A70 coming to the US via Verizon first

In the past, Samsung has limited its presence in the US smartphone market to its top-end premium flagships. The reasoning, perhaps, was that these were the only ones that would sell in such a primary consumer market. Times have changed, however, and so have consumer tastes and budgets. Samsung has finally made available a couple of its Galaxy A series … Continue reading

Garmin Unveils New Nav System That Can Help Small Planes Land

While many might now associate Garmin with fitness trackers and smartwatches, back in the day, Garmin was probably best known for their navigation systems. It looks like the company is revisiting its roots, although in this particular case, it won’t be a navigation system that you might be able to buy.

The company has taken the wraps off the Garmin Autoland, a navigation system designed for small planes. Now, this system is more than just about helping planes find their destination, instead, it seems that this system can actually help planes land at a press of a button, making the entire process a lot more simple.

But isn’t that what pilots train for? To land planes? While that is true, this system seems to have been created as more of an emergency system, where in the event the pilot might not be able to land the plane, passengers just need to press the button and the plane will land itself. The system will take into account all kinds of variables, such as weather, how much fuel is left, runway surface, length, and any obstacles that might be in the way.

It will also be capable of alerting Air Traffic Control to let them know that there is an emergency and that they should clear the area and make sure that there emergency personnel on the ground to help.

This Is What Motorola’s Razr Foldable Phone Will Look Like

Back in the day of the feature phone, Motorola was the king of premium phones when they launched the Motorola Razr, which at that time, was one of the first few phones to be made out of premium materials. Now it looks like Motorola is ready to make a comeback by reviving the Razr but with a modern twist.

If you have been following the rumors, you might have heard that Motorola could be getting ready to relaunch the Razr, except that it will sport a foldable display on the inside. Now thanks to a photo shared by leakster Evan Blass, we have an idea of what to expect. As you can see in the photo above, the smartphone will be similar in design to the Razr, except that on the inside, instead of two separate displays, it will feature one singular foldable display.

This is a stark contrast to the phones announced by Samsung and Huawei, both of which feature smartphones that can transform into a tablet. However, Motorola’s approach is different and we’re not sure how they plan on selling their design to the masses. It is still an interesting idea though, but how much it will cost remains to be seen.

Motorola has confirmed that they will be hosting an event in November so we should have more details about the phone then.

US Navy Could Be Making Our Sci-Fi Dreams Come True With Compact Fusion Reactor Patent

There are many forms of energy generation at the moment, but one of the ideal forms of energy generation that has been pursued by the scientific community comes in the form of nuclear fusion. This is because unlike nuclear fission, fusion, at least in theory, is thought to be safer. It is also thought to be cleaner as it does not produce any radioactive waste.

However, due to the requirements needed to create nuclear fusion, it continues to remain out of reach. But could the US Navy be close to figuring it out? In a patent filed by the US Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, it seems that they have come up with an idea for a compact fusion reactor, one that if made a reality, could be used to replace the fission reactors used in naval vessels, and it could also be used to replace nuclear power plants.

Now, before we get too excited, it seems that some skepticism and doubt has been cast on whether or not this patent is even viable to begin with. One of the reasons is due to the size of the device which measures 0.3m to 2m in diameter. It also uses conical dynamic fusors that spin at extremely high speeds versus the superconducting magnets found in more traditional fusion plants.

This has led to doubts that such a small device could produce energy gains, although at the same time, perhaps a different approach is what we need. After all, many scientific breakthroughs have happened sometimes by accident or by looking at the problem in a different way. Whether or not we will see this patent made a reality remains to be seen.

Chrome 79 Beta lays the foundation for VR and AR on the Web

Virtual reality and even augmented reality seem to have taken a backseat to other tech news of late but that may be partly due to the growing maturity of the technologies. In other words, they’re no longer as groundbreaking or as odd as they were at the start. That said, VR and especially AR are still pretty much out of … Continue reading
