Tesla Has Already Received Over 140,000 Orders Of Its New Cybertruck

As some of you might have learnt over the weekend, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk took the wraps off a brand new electric vehicle that the company is working on, the Cybertruck. It garnered a lot of talk and a bit of controversy due to its design, which some are calling futuristic, while others are calling it weird.

However, it seems that despite the initial shock to its design, many customers appear to be enamored enough to place an order for it. According to Musk’s tweet, it has been revealed that there have been over 140,000 orders placed for the Cybertruck to date, and we imagine that those numbers should rise over time.

That being said, we should note that these orders only require a refundable deposit of $100 just to place an order, so it’s not that hard for customers to place orders and cancel them later, so maybe we shouldn’t be celebrating the Cybertruck’s success just yet. For those who are unfamiliar, the Cybertruck is essentially an electric pickup truck.

It will offer up some pretty interesting features, such as a reinforced body and window panes to make the truck more sturdy than ever. There will also be multiple versions of the truck offered, where there will single, dual, or triple motors depending on the driver’s preference, with the cheapest model starting at $39,900. The Cybertruck won’t be ready anytime soon as it has been estimated that production will only begin in 2021.

Alleged Samsung Galaxy S11 Renders Show Off A Boxy Camera Module

Samsung’s Galaxy S11 is expected to be announced next year, and as such, we suppose it’s about time that the rumor mill get things going. Now thanks to renders released by @OnLeaks and 91mobiles, they have shared what appears to be the design of the upcoming Galaxy S11 handset.

We can’t be sure of how accurate these renders are, but in the past, @OnLeaks and 91mobiles have been pretty spot on with their leaks. According to these renders, we can see several design changes that Samsung has made to the phone compared to its predecessor. One of those changes involves the front-facing camera, which has been moved from the side to the front.

It also appears that Samsung will continue to use the hole-punch design which is a bit of a pity, as we’re sure that some were hoping that the company would have finalized its in-display camera tech by now. Another major change would be the camera setup on the back, where Samsung has opted for a boxy camera module design.

From what we can tell, it appears that the handset will be sporting four cameras, but what exactly are their configurations remains to be seen. Take this leak with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we’ll have more details in the future.

Facebook Built (But Never Released) A Facial Recognition App

Given how much Facebook knows about us, partly due to many of us willingly handing that information over, a lot of us have become a bit more wary about Facebook’s intentions these days. Now according to a recent report from Business Insider, it seems that Facebook had at one point in time created a facial recognition app.

The report claims that back in 2015 and 2016, Facebook developed an app internally where they could point the camera on a smartphone at anyone and it will recognize them and pull up relevant information, assuming that they were on Facebook. It sounds a bit worrying as it means that strangers on the street could basically find out who we are without us knowing about it.

However, in a statement made to CNET, Facebook has reassured us that it only worked for accounts that had facial recognition enabled, and that the app was never intended to be released and was only used as a way to “learn about new technologies”. The app is said to have since been discontinued, so luckily for us, this app won’t be seeing the light of day anytime soon.

Whether or not Facebook will attempt to revisit this in the future remains to be seen, but given that the company doesn’t exactly boast the most stellar reputation when it comes to privacy, we’re sure that they plan on treading carefully in those waters.

Microsoft Granted License To Resume Selling Software To Huawei

As some of you might have heard, Huawei is currently placed on the US government’s Entity List. Companies that have been placed on this list are basically banned from doing business with US companies. This clearly puts Huawei in a bind as they do rely on hardware and software in its various products and services that are made by companies in the US.

The good news for Huawei is that it looks like the company might have gotten a bit of a reprieve as Microsoft has recently been granted a license to resume selling software to the company. For those unfamiliar, while Huawei is on the Entity List, the US government has allowed companies to apply for licenses to do business with Huawei, and Microsoft has been granted said license.

Presumably this means that Microsoft will be able to supply Huawei with software such as Windows and Office, so future Huawei laptops should not be affected by Huaweui being placed on the Entity List. That being said, it seems that Google has yet to be granted their license to do business with Huawei again.

This is a bit worrying as Huawei’s future mobile phones could still not come with Google Play Services preinstalled. The Huawei Mate 30 series is the first “casualty” of this but hopefully Google will receive their license soon.

Microsoft cleared to export mass-market software to Huawei temporarily

It seems that Huawei may be able to breathe a bit easier even if it keeps on showing an unaffected and nonchalant public face. The company was recently granted another 90-day reprieve and the US Department of Commerce has started to grant or deny applications for temporary licenses to export American products to the embattled Chinese company. While the fate … Continue reading
