Sony’s ‘Uncharted’ Movie Loses Yet Another Director

Will Sony’s Uncharted movie ever see the light of day? It certainly doesn’t really feel like it because according to a report from Deadline, their sources have told them that the movie’s latest director, Travis Knight, will apparently be dropping out of the movie due to scheduling conflicts.

This is said to be due to actor Tom Holland’s schedule with Spider-Man that is apparently causing some scheduling issues. Deadline’s sources have also told them that Sony still has plans to move forward with the movie and will be looking for a new director and will also be setting a new release date, which was previously set for a release in 2020.

The movie seems to be having a problem with keeping its directors around, where back in August, it was reported that Dan Trachtenberg had also decided to call it quits on directing the movie which ultimately led to Travis Knight taking up the role. For those looking at the timeline, the movie was initially supposed to be directed by David O. Russell.

It was later supposed to be directed by Stranger Things’ Shawn Levy, before it went to Dan Trachtenberg. The movie is said to be keeping its cast, where Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg will be the movie’s leads, with Holland playing Nathan Drake while Wahlberg cast as Drake’s ally Victor Sullivan.

The Witcher 3 Is Now More Popular Than Ever

CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher series is one of the more popular RPGs around. However, it seems that thanks to Netflix’s The Witcher series, the game appears to be more popular than ever. This is according to recent stats on Steam which revealed that The Witcher 3 is actually more popular than it was at launch.

The Witcher 3, when it first debuted back in 2015, had a concurrent player count of 92,268. However, since The Witcher series was released, the new stats for the game is at 94,601. While the difference isn’t particularly huge, the fact that it surpassed the original concurrent player count even four years after the game was launched speaks volumes.

The game has even managed to make its way into Steam’s top 10 games, with it being the eighth most-played game at this point in time. Other games in The Witcher series have also seen an increase in popularity, where The Witcher: Enhanced Edition managed to break into Steam’s top 100 most-played games.

It also broke its concurrent player record where it peaked at over 12,000 players. For players who are hoping to see more The Witcher games, CD Projekt Red recently signed a new deal with The Witcher’s author, Andrezj Sapkowski, hinting that we could be seeing new titles in the future. However, with the developer working on Cyberpunk 2077, maybe don’t hold your breath just yet.

Apple Could Start Sourcing iPhone OLEDs From China Starting In 2020

It is a pretty well-known fact that for Apple’s iPhone OLED screens, the company typically sources from Korean producers such as Samsung. However, starting in 2020, Apple is apparently said to be moving away from Korea and looking towards China, where Chinese company BOE is expected to supply Apple with some of the OLEDs for the 2020 iPhone.

The report from RPRNA says that for now, Samsung is expected to continue being Apple’s main supplier, but BOE could potentially be getting more orders compared to LG, but less so than Samsung. We’re not sure if there are plans to eventually shift more orders to BOE, but it makes sense that Apple would want to diversify its supply chain.

This is because in the past, Apple and Samsung had a bit of a contentious relationship due to the legal battles that took place around the world over patent infringements. There is no doubt that this has somewhat soured the relationship between both companies. However, it also makes good business sense to not put all their eggs into one basket, so by diversifying to BOE, Apple will reduce potential bottlenecks should it ever occur.

As it stands, BOE already supplies LCDs to Apple for use in their iPads and MacBooks, so both companies already have a working relationship with each other.

Wyze Camera Breach Exposes 2.4 Million User Data

Want to furnish your home with a home security camera? There are plenty of smart options these days, one of which being Nest which is one of the more popular models around. However, Nest cameras do not come cheap, which is why many were understandably excited when a couple of years ago, Wyze launched a $20 alternative.

However, could it be a case of you get what you pay for? According to a report from TwelveSecurity, it seems that Wyze has recently experienced a security breach in which 2.4 million user data have been exposed. The leaked information includes the username and email addresses used to sign up for accounts, as well as nicknames for each camera, device model, firmware, and how many cameras have been setup in the home of the user.

It also includes WiFi SSID, internet subnet layout, last on time for the cameras, and even details like height, weight, and gender for a subset of users, just to name a few. Wyze has since confirmed the leak. In a statement made by the company:

“We copied some data from our main production servers and put it into a more flexible database that is easier to query. This new data table was protected when it was originally created. However, a mistake was made by a Wyze employee on December 4th when they were using this database and the previous security protocols for this data were removed. We are still looking into this event to figure out why and how this happened.”

The company also notes that no passwords or financial data related to users have been compromised, and that they will be emailing users who have been affected. In the meantime, if you do own a Wyze camera, it might be a good idea to change your passwords just to be safe. 1440p VS 1080p Smartphone Display Battery Test

A while back, there was a race to create a smartphone with the highest resolution possible. At one point in time, it felt like we could expect that smartphones with 4K displays to become the new standard, but for the most part, a lot of companies have stopped at QHD, with only a handful of smartphones sporting 4K screens.

The reason we’re not seeing 4K on our smartphones, at least not yet, could be due to battery issues, where obviously a screen with a higher resolution would need more battery, so the question is, how much more battery would a phone drain if it had a higher resolution compared to a lower one? That’s what PhoneBuff is trying to find out in a new battery test.

In a video shared on YouTube, PhoneBuff compared the battery life of the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus where one model had a 1440p display and the other having a 1080p resolution. The test tries to find out if both phones were used in a similar manner, what the difference in battery life would be.

What’s interesting is that in this test, it seems that there was almost no perceptible difference between the battery lives of either handset. Both devices seemed to drain at roughly the same rate, with the 1080p phone actually running out of battery about a minute before the 1440p phone does.

We’re not sure how scientific of a test this year, but it suggests that maybe any battery drain using a higher resolution could be negligible enough for users to safely ignore.

LG Patents A Smartphone Case With A Flexible Display

LG and Samsung maintain a pretty fierce rivalry, which is unsurprising given that both companies are huge in Korea, and that both of them pretty much compete in the same industries. This is why it was a bit surprising that following Samsung’s announcement of the Galaxy Fold, LG did not follow suit with something similar of their own.

Instead, LG has opted to launch the LG G8x ThinQ which was sold with an optional detachable display that kind of turned the phone into a foldable phone of sorts. It’s not quite the same thing, but that could change in the future, according to a patent discovered by LetsGoDigital. The publication has come across a patent in which it shows LG is working on a smartphone case that comes with a flexible display.

As you can see in the image above, the phone will sit inside of the case, where the flexible display will wraps around the outer part of the cover. There are several advantages to such a design. One of them being that should the case ever get damaged, all users need to do is replace it.

This is versus the current design of foldable display smartphones where it might be a much more expensive process to replace it in the event of damage. It also gives users the option of not using the flexible display if they’d rather not. That being said, we’re not sure if there are plans to ever make this a reality, so try not to get your hopes up just yet.

Galaxy S11 renaming will drop the Galaxy S20e

It sometimes takes a crystal ball to properly divine the thinking that goes behind branding changes. The next big one in the mobile industry will allegedly come from Samsung when it skips nine digits and launch the Galaxy S11 as the Galaxy S20. Apparently, it won’t be a simple naming change either as the trio that will launch early 2020 … Continue reading
