Canon EOS R With Hybrid Mount Could Feature A ‘Moving’ Sensor

According to a rumor from earlier this month, it was suggested that Canon could be working on a new professional EOS R camera that could feature a hybrid EF/RF mount. Now according to a report from Canon Watch, it seems that another possible rumored feature of the camera is a “moving sensor”.

The report claims that this moving sensor is what will help make the hybrid mounting system works. This is due to the fact that EF and RF lenses are made differently. By using a moving sensor, it can help to move the sensor back and forth to adjust for the flange distance between the two lens types.

This means that if you switch from an RF lens to an EF lens, the sensor will move and adapt accordingly so that your photos come out right, and vice versa. Canon Watch suggests that this is probably the most likely approach and also probably the most feasible in terms of engineering.

Of course, there’s no way to confirm if this is true so it’s probably best taken with a grain of salt, but if it is true, then Canon could have something truly unique on their hands. That being said, this particular camera is only expected to arrive in 2020 at the earliest, so we will have to wait and see for ourselves.

Watch The iPhone 11 Pro Go Up Against A $250,000 Camera

The tech on our smartphone cameras have evolved and improved over the years, to the point where some have argued that there might no longer be a need for compact cameras. In fact, to a certain extent, cameras on our smartphones are good enough where at a glance, it could be on par with DSLRs and more professional rigs.

In the past, we’ve seen Apple’s new iPhone 11 Pro go up against a $7,500 DSLR camera. We later saw it go up against a $20,000 Leica camera, and in a new video uploaded by Zebra Zone, it looks like the iPhone 11 Pro will be facing a $250,000 TV camera setup, which is possibly the most unfair comparison ever.

It is clear which camera is the winner in this regard, but that’s not necessarily the point that Zebra Zone wanted to make. In the video, Zebra Zone argued that for the most part, using your iPhone to capture photos and videos is fine, but when a client hires you to shoot a video for an event, like a wedding, they’re paying for your reliability, quality, and consistency.

This means that while our smartphones can no doubt challenge photos and videos taken on more expensive rigs, it does not mean that they will be replacing them anytime soon. It is an interesting watch so if you have some time to spare, it could be worth taking a look at.

Apple Arcade Now Has A Cheaper Annual Subscription Option

Apple Arcade currently costs subscribers $4.99 a month. It’s not particularly expensive, but if you do have multiple subscriptions to other services running, we imagine that it will all add up to be quite a lot. The good news is that Apple is now giving you a chance to save some money if you’re willing to commit.

The company has recently introduced a new annual subscription option where it will be priced at $49.99 a year. This is more or less a $10 savings compared to if you were to subscribe on a month-to-month basis. Of course, this will lock you in for an entire year, but if you’re confident that this is a service you plan to use for a while, then you might as well save some money while you’re at it.

For those unfamiliar, Apple Arcade is a subscription service introduced by Apple earlier this year. It offers users access to an entire library of games that they can download and play whenever they want, almost like the Netflix of mobile games. Some of these games are exclusive to Apple Arcade and have made waves based on stellar reviews.

The idea is that these are full, premium games without any in-app purchases or microtransactions, so that gamers will be able to enjoy the game in full without having to worry about paying more to unlock additional features. Google also has a similar feature in the form of Google Play Pass, with the main difference being that it also covers non-gaming apps.

Instagram Has A New Tool To Fight Against Fake News And Misinformation

Due to the ease of being able to share a post on social media at a click (or several clicks) of a button, it’s not surprising that in our zeal to share information with those around us that sometimes, some of us might accidentally share information that isn’t 100% accurate, or in some cases, flat out fake.

Some have blamed social media platforms for not doing enough to combat this problem, but on Instagram’s front, the company is finally doing something about it. The company has recently announced that they have introduced a new tool that will flag posts that contain false information, as well as prevent users from sharing posts that might also be deemed to be fake.

According to Instagram, “When content has been rated as false or partly false by a third-party fact-checker, we reduce its distribution by removing it from Explore and hashtag pages. In addition, it will be labeled so people can better decide for themselves what to read, trust, and share. When these labels are applied, they will appear to everyone around the world viewing that content – in feed, profile, stories, and direct messages.”

Given that Instagram is pretty much purely image driven, the company says that they will rely on image matching technology to look for images that are the same and have been flagged as fake. It will also work with Facebook, where if content on Facebook has been flagged, it will apply a similar label on Instagram posts as well, and vice versa.

Instagram’s AI Will Warn You Against Posting Offensive Captions

With social media being so easy to access and anyone can post and say anything, sometimes people end up saying things they don’t mean or say things without thinking about how it might affect the person reading it. Instagram seems to have a new feature that could give you some pause.

The company has announced that as part of their ongoing anti-cyberbullying efforts, they are introducing a new AI-powered feature that can detect comments and captions that might be deemed offensive. When it does, as you can see in the screenshot above, it will warn users that this might be considered to be a bad idea and that they should consider editing it.

According to Instagram, “Today, when someone writes a caption for a feed post and our AI detects the caption as potentially offensive, they will receive a prompt informing them that their caption is similar to those reported for bullying. They will have the opportunity to edit their caption before it’s posted. “

Of course, users can still go ahead and post it if they want, but at the very least Instagram is giving users the opportunity to reconsider some of their choices. Whether or not users take the company up on it is a different story, although the company does note that so far, the results have been promising.
